So I am a bit behind on episodes and only just got around to listening to the Van Meter episodes.

It struck me that there is a potential solution to this mystery that seems to fit many of the facts as we have received them.

Is there, anywhere on earth, an eight foot tall creature with a beak and wings, that presents a vaguely humanoid silhouette?

Yes. That accurately describes an ostrich.

Looking at some of the other reported properties exhibited by the Van Meter visitor, could they fit an ostrich?

Two sounds are reported - a rasping, strangling sound like a man's last breath, and a noise that sounds like scraping two metal files.
