Hi everyone,

I’m looking to upgrade my smoke alarms and would love your insights—especially from anyone who’s tackled this with Home Assistant (or similarly automated) setups.

Current setup • Kidde battery‑powered alarms (no hard‑wired interconnect) • Recent failures: didn’t detect a kitchen fire; upstairs units died despite fresh batteries

What I want 1. Reliable detection—no more missed alerts 2. SMS/text notifications when an alarm goes off 3. Battery‑powered or easy retrofit (no rewiring)

Options I’m considering 1. First Alert Basics + Alexa Emergency Assist • Cheap, straightforward detectors • Requires an Alexa device in each area for SMS alerts (paid subscription) 2. Basic

Dumbphone finder

I am need of a dumb phone. I spend too much time on my phone, and the recent election has me stressed out. I don’t want to be constantly looking at my phone for the latest news updates, so I need y’all’s help.

The only requirements I probably have is I’d like to be able to access my banking app if possible, and I good camera as I’m about to be a new dad and I’d like to record videos / take pictures.

Any help would be immensely appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Scrypted Team,

Just wanted to say thank you for such detailed documentation. It’s quite easy to pick up. I was looking for solutions for a problem, and I stumbled on this application. Absolutely impressed and excited to give it a try! Thank you for all the work!

Hi, WGU Community,

I'm torn between a Network Engineering and Security degree or Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. Wondering if a second bachelor's, a masters, or just focusing on certifications is the way to go.

I have a BS IT Management from WGU and work as a Technical Support Engineer, troubleshooting email delivery issues and API platform issues. My partner suggests a Cybersecurity master's, but I lack experience, though I dabble in a homelab with pfsense, and virtualization, but honestly it’s nothing major.

Seeking advice from experienced individuals in the field or those in/graduated from the programs. Any insights or considerations appreciated. What would you do in my situa

As an Ohioan, I too had the same reaction to Melt when I had it for the first time. I felt like I saw Shane’s midwestern coming out as he was eating.

Even though Steven came across as a paid add 😂 I agree with his message. Skyline Chili is absolutely amazing. They missed out on some delicious chili dogs. Non-Ohioans reacting to Skyline Chili is hella funny.

Hi All,

This one was insanely difficult, as I was over thinking it and felt a little overwhelmed. I really recommend taking your time on this one, as it shows how images are read and manipulated. Some spoilers below, but they are just hints! I will not be providing any code below; my goal is to help people out who are overthinking this. As I overthought it and instantly, I felt doubt in myself and questioned my ability to complete this.

My first attempt:

!I reversed the order of the RGB value, added another chunk of code, and pulled it from a 2D array.!< I want to say, this solution did work from a visual standpoint, but it didn't pass cs50 checks.

So, I was able to work out this code for the practice problem, it passes all checks, but I am a little confused / frustrated honestly. I feel like I am missing the point this practice problem is attempting to teach me, I am not even using the cs50.h header file in my program. I have some experience with python, not much, but it makes me feel like I am doing something wrong with my code.

I am allocating memory within the function, the heap, then I am returning a pointer and having a variable point towards it within the main function. I invertedly learned about pointers and memory allocation somewhat via this assignment, freeing the memory a pointer points to, removing the pointers reference

Hi all,

I wanted to throw this out there. Just finished the pset for credit, took me a few hours spanned over two days.

Some things I felt like were helpful, it is to realize that there are multiple components to this pset. What I mean is:

  • You will need to obtain the card number
  • Find the length of the card
  • Find the card type
  • Perform a checksum against the card number to confirm if the card is valid

Once I broke it down, it made it much easier to digest. It's easier to look at an individual piece of the problem, tackle it, then move on to the next.

My advice is, look at the problem as pieces rather than a whole. Don't worry about how pretty it looks, I tend to get wrapped up

Loved Ryan talking with a skeleton, and just the direction they’re going with the show. I like the new haunt idea. Like storm chaser, or tornado hunter, but ghost chasers as a career profession sounds legit.

Are we going to get cross over of the professor with ghost file’s debrief episode? That would be wild.

Hi Homelab,

I am unsure if there would be a better place to post this but I need some assistance if possible.

When migrating the unifi controller host OS from the LAN subnet of .10 to the MGMT subnet of .20, and the unifi controller remaps to the new IP, the Unifi switch is unable to be adopted on the new subnet.

When the new IP takes to the Debian Host for the controler, I am also unable to SSH back into the Unifi Switch to perform set-inform. I have tried NMAP on the device, to see what if any ports are open - but there are none open and getting a response of closed.

So I then try to factory reset the switch, thinking that the issue is with the adoption but after performing this step t

Hi all,

Getting into homelabbing, currently have an old SFF pc that I’m using to learn about router stuff like pfsense. I am wanting to learn virtualization and just get into this hobby but don’t have any equipment or knowledge about what is good equipment to learn on.

Appreciate the help in advance, thank you!
