Long story short, my car got rear ended the other day. The damage seems to be superficial, but I guess you never know till you get an estimate. The person that hit me suggested not going through insurance. Is it wise to get an estimate from a body shop and skip the insurance altogether? The body shop I spoke to works directly with a BMW dealer and said they won't report it to Carfax. I'm in California if that makes a difference.
