  • added script:current-line-text (#85)
  • fixed incorrect function prototype (vm/nga-c/retro.c)
  • added double:dip and double:sip
  • default builds are now 64-bit
  • mem: now uses single cells (rick c)
  • mem: now requires 64-bit (rick c)
  • block: words now use the block storage device
  • fll: linked list vocabulary added (from arland)
  • added string deduplication (s:dedup)
  • added new a: words: a:first, a:last, a:temp, a:hash, a:indices, a:indices/string

This release isn't quite what I had hoped to complete by this point, but due to RSI issues and work on the new implementation for lower-resource targets, I need to defer a few things for now.

Notable changes:

  • a rust implementation of Nga has been added
  • on unix, using nga-c:
    • optional support for multiple virtual processors (backport from napia)
    • optional support for unsigned math operations
    • better error messages when attempting to use socket words if socket device is not enabled
    • display a warning (and pointer to unu documentation) if no code b

I saw this today and thought it looked interesting.

https://github.com/lkundrak/86asm.fth/

Described as:

The 86ASM.FTH is a FORTH package providing an assembler for the Intel 8086 processor. It provides words corresponding to the human readable mnemonics of the instructions and operands that append corresponding machine code to the dictionary.

It has been tested with GForth and Open Firmware. It aims to be as simple as possible and uses no fancy features, hopefully being portable to very limited FORTH implementations.

GPLv2 licensed; and has documentation in PDF and groff formats.

RetroForth 2021.7 is now released.

Primary Changes:

  • kernel is no longer fixed at 1024 bytes in length
  • new loop combinator: forever
  • support for non-decimal bases (added Base, binary, octal, decimal, hex)
  • support for byte level addressing (b:fetch and b:store)
  • renamed some of words to make them more consistent
  • new hooks: d:create and sigil::
  • improved precision of f:E and f:PI
  • fixed reporting of used & free memory
  • additional common words (n:inc, n:dec) now written in inline assembly
  • nga/nim: fixed a bug in the "sh"ift opcode
  • nga/c++: new implementation from Arland
  • nga/c: non-libc version now works on openbsd/amd64
  • nga/c: removed redund

I'm a bit confused on the credit line. I can make use of it, but the amount only ever decreases; transferring money and deposits into the Spend Pocket do not update the amount available.

I originally had a $25 credit line. I used part of the credit line, then transferred money into the pocket to cover it. The money entered the Spend pocket, but the credit line remained showing a partial amount available. Since then the limit was increased, but despite getting paid, the credit line still shows "238.91 of $250" available, though I have funds in the pocket.

How am I supposed to be able to pay back the used portion?

I'm happy to announce that the 2021.4 release of RetroForth is ready. A full changelog is available in the source, but in summary:

  • renamed namespace prefix: to sigil:
  • reduced the memory usage of the I/O devices
  • fix for an obscure bug related to nested includes
  • Python VM now supports run length encoded images
  • C VM is now more streamlined, a little faster, and allows easier selection of I/O at compile time
  • sockets support is now optional, and is disabled by default
  • added an assembly implementation of the VM for the 65c816 (thanks to Piotr Meyer)
  • cleanups and refactoring to the examples
  • misc. bugfixes and documentation corrections

I'm happy to announce that RetroForth 2021.1 is now complete. It's available on http://forthworks.com/retro, as well as via http://github.com/crcx/retroforth.

The full changelog is included in the source, but a summary:

  • all conditionals now treat non-zero as true instead of requiring a flag of -1 or 0
  • the standard image is a little smaller
  • several obscure bugs were fixed that caused address stack corruption in a few cases
  • code and test block delimiters in Unu (our literate source format) are now user definable
  • The retro-muri assembler now uses a separate pass for each handled item (instructions, data, strings, label resolution, etc)
  • significant expansion and refactoring of the

Our business is open from 7 am to 4 pm. Until recently, Fedex would drop off material in the early afternoon, but for the last couple of months, they've just been dumping deliveries outside our building a few hours after we close. This doesn't work for us as packages have disappeared and been damaged due to weather; does anyone know who I need to contact to have Fedex not leave packages outside of our business if we are closed?
