openFPGA core, dumps cartridges through the official adapters.

New:

  • Game Gear ROM dumping
  • Atari Lynx ROM dumping, verified on NFL Football, two byte-identical captures, matches MAME. It's the best I could do since I have the adapter kit and I recently found a card locally.

You can also write saves back to a cart. MBC5 at 8 and 32 KiB is new. GB/GBC

Shadowgate Classic, Dragon Warrior III and Pokemon Silver all took their saves back. It is alpha, so back up first.

Limits: Lynx is ROM only, 512 KiB max, no AUDIN bankers, one cart tested.

Updates to my increasingly questionable Pocket hobby:

I have a full cheat and dump ecosystem now, app use optional. The app just provides a simple way to catalogue, associate cheats, dumps, and verify against the No-Intro databases, as well as quickly install my cores.

  • GBA: ROM and cartridge cheats, with named overlays. Default Turnaround timing should let many physical games boot without issue. Fast Burst fixes audio in games like Zero Mission. For the EverDrive Mini, boot on Slow, then switch back to Fast Burst for the same fixes as physical carts. RTC and the battery-warning fix are verified, as are

This started because I wanted cheats on my Pocket. Cheats on a real cartridge meant reading the cartridge, and once the core could do that, dumping it to the SD card was a short step. All of it is open source and hopefully documented enough to prove.

**Cartridge dumping**

Dumps GB, GBC and GBA cartridges and their saves straight to the SD card, on the Pocket, no reader and no PC. So far 41 cartridges dumped, all 41 matching No-Intro, and 27 saves backed up. Read-only for now: it never writes to a cartridge. Writing saves back to the cart is coming. There are

So the core:

The helper app is just a small python/tkinter app to make the connection between the libretro chest database and the stuff on your Pocket SD card/preloading cheats for cartridges.

The helper app that hasn’t been verified on anything but Linux, but works in Wine and builds for Windows and macOS. They were a “if it works it works” last minute thing.

I’ve now played halfway through my original Oracle of Ages and Links Awakening DX, on this killer screen. That is all I’ve wanted from this device since I picked it up at release.

This will probably nuke the childho

Everybody here has seen the insides of these consoles 100 times, so after I finished my latest cleanups, I wanted to show off the actual results.

First off, this isn't scientific. This is simply meant to be as a bit of an "eye test" from relatively close to show the differences. Also, almost all of this knowledge comes from Voultar, as I am only capable of regurgitating it.

The setup is:

  • Full RGB setup with SCART
  • Retrotink 5x
  • A custom squid adaptor for a PS2 slim PSU, which is just an ultra low noise, breakout for multiple consoles
  • All modded in one way or another.

The suspects are:

  • A boxy SNES that was trashed and I was able to get for $20
