I am a beginner trying to get into whittling and wondered if anybody had any whetstone/sharpener recommendations for a reasonable price. Additionally any good tutorials would be awesome!

I have never whittled before but want to try it, and was wondering what type of knife would be good to start with. Since I would be new anyway would some cheap from a hardware store work or would I need something slightly higher quality to be worth the effort. I would be willing to spend a bit more on something depending on how much I enjoy it.
Ideally looking for something around or under $20 but I do not know if that is realistic.
Thanks!

Like is it: x% chance to slip one turn. Or is it something else?
