Just returned from 3 weeks in Japan with just one piece of advice that I haven’t seen posted previously - Compliment restaurant staff after your meal. I don’t speak Japanese, but would enthusiastically say “oishii” (“delicious”) and their faces lit up with big smiles every time! They really appreciated this.

(My daughter says correct grammar would be “oishii desu”)
