May Day 2026 protests planned under Workers Over Billionaires theme
foxnews.com/us/may-day-protests-take-place-fr...I'm getting bombed by deceptive ads from the Justice for Democracy PAC claiming that the initiative is an attempt at gerrymandering, that Obama hates it, and that minorities will suffer, etc., etc. It's a lie, but very persuasive. Here is a link to what we're actually voting on:
https://www.elections.virginia.gov/election-law/proposed-amendment-for-april-2026-special-election/
For the lazy or hurried, here is the relevant proposed text (but not formatting - look at the link):
The Commonwealth shall be reapportioned into electoral districts in accordance with this section and Section 6-A in the year 2021 and every ten years thereafter, except that the General Assembly shall be authorized
Just cross posted to the DC subreddit about this. I understand these are only effective if at least 3.5% of the population participates, so this is a heads up and also check on awareness about it.
They are only effective if a critical mass of people stop working. I think the statistic is 3.5%. I just read about a call for one tomorrow and didn't see anything about it in our local channels.
I hope I'm not violating any rules, but I've been dying to see these guys and just learned they're coming to DC December 14 with King Buffalo opening. I discovered them during COVID and was blown away. Parks reminds me of my son, and McLeod is unbelievable on the guitar. More recently, I've fallen in love with King Buffalo's sound as well, so this was doubly exciting.
The show is already sold out, which sucks mightily. I never go to concerts so I have no idea what options are out there (other than to get scammed or rolled by Ticketmaster, apparently). Any tips from the sub of fans would be much appreciated. I looked at Tixel as a potentially legit reseller, but am pretty lost on optio
Federal officers detain, beat moped driver amid Trump D.C. police crackdown
washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2025/08/17/dc-arr...There are lots of posts about Lantern Flies (like this one today: DC sub), which apparently thrive because of the invasive Tree of Heaven. We're losing the war against invasive plants like Porcelainberry, Garlic Mustard, and Tree of Heaven, but plants don't move and there are lots of us, so we should be able to do something about them.
Does anyone know of a hotline where we can report outbreaks of invasive plants? And does anyone know of groups who clear them out as a public service?
When I'm out running/walking/biking, I often find myself wandering into the greenery to tear out some vines - especially Porcelainb
Strike Set Back Iran’s Nuclear Program by Only a Few Months, U.S. Report Says
nytimes.com/2025/06/24/us/politics/iran-nucle...[WaT] >!It seemed like when the situation got very desperate for each character, they completely forgot about each other. In the grinding final days both went deeply down the rabbit hole of introspection, then reflecting on the impact of everyone except their spouses on each other. It didn't make any sense to me, and I'm wondering if there was a plot device I missed to explain why they basically forgot about each other until all was said and done.!<
