This is just a 'My Two Cents' post. Take that as you wish.

I hear a lot of talk about how auctions take too long. And they can, but there are ways to make them go faster. We actually did this years and years ago for fantasy baseball and it saved hours.

In turn, someone brings up a player and a bid. The next person around the circle must either bid more than the previous bid. If that person chooses not to, that person says, 'Auction' and then they become the auctioneer. Then the bidding can come from anywhere at any amount. Also, of course, once one of owners becomes the auctioneer, they cannot bid on that player.

Now, it's very important that you take 5 minutes before the auction t

I started running fantasy football leagues in the late 1980s (seriously), and I currently run 8 leagues of all different varieties. Dynasty, Keeper/Salary Cap, Guillotine, Redraft, Steal-A-Player leagues, I've done them all. And the one piece of old person advice I'd like to give to everyone is this: Simplify whenever you can.

For instance, I see guys come one here saying something like: We have 16-man rosters with 4 Taxi Squad spots and 2 IR spots. Then invariably in October they come here and complain because Yahoo (or whatever) hasn't officially put Troy Franklin on IR yet and how they should handle it.

Here's a thought: Why not just have 22-man rosters? No Taxi, no IR, just let the own

I generally like the 'young person listens to xxx for the first time' genre on youtube, but this one guy is actually great. He's listening to every Beatles album for the first time.

I think the thing that sets Issac Brown (the dude's name) apart in the genre is that he's a genuine music producer and he really seems to know his stuff. He gives me insight as he's listening to the albums that I would not have caught on my own.

He's just finished part 2 of the White Album so he's almost done, but you can catch all his videos on the Beatles here:

Nevermind, reddit won't let me post the link, fearing self-promotion (I assure you I'm not Issac Brown). But just go to youtube and google 'Issac B

Apologies if it's been posted before. I just saw a yt video with the best workable solution. I tweaked it a bit. Here's how it would work.

Once a team is eliminated from the playoffs, they start earning points. The points are as follows:
3 points for a win
2 points for an OT loss
1 point for a loss where the losing team was either within 5 points with under 5 minutes to go, or lost the game by 5 points or less.

Instituting this system would mean that almost every team in the NBA would be trying to win games in March and April. It would also mean that the very worst teams would have the best shot at the top picks, because the decent teams who just barely missed the playoffs would ha

In 1973, the Beatles Red Album and Blue Album were released, containing a whopping 54 songs between them. That a band could have that many recognizable hit songs is amazing in itself, but what's even more amazing is that the Beatles could put out yet ANOTHER greatest hits type album with all their songs that are NOT on either the Red or Blue albums.

So what I've done is compile a 'Yellow Album', which contains 14 songs that weren't even good enough to be on the Red/Blue Albums, yet together would comprise a very good and very solid greatest hits type album, and her it is:

SIDE ONE:

  1. I Saw Her Standing There
  2. Twist and Shout
  3. I Should Have Known Better
  4. If I Fell

I saw a suggestion somewhere to put any song lyric into some sort of Al. No instructions, just put in the lyric and see what it spits out. Instead of doing something simple like 'Smoke on the Water' or 'Stairway to Heaven', I decided to go for the gusto and put this in from I Am The Walrus:

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus, goo-goo g'joob

What it spat out is the stuff of nightmare fuel, but it's pretty neat. Here it is if you're brave enough:

I'm wondering if anyone's done this before.

So I'm writing my league article and I noted that the team I beat had the highest score for a losing team so far this season. That gave me an idea, let me know what you think...

How about whichever team scores the most points in a loss gets that loss converted to a win. This would be season long, so the catch is if another team later in the season scores more points than the first team, then that second team gets their loss converted to a win, but the first team has the win that they got converted back to a loss.

I know it sounds sort of silly, but it also sounds kind of fun. LMK what you think.

Keeper leagues are great. Redraft leagues are great. However, each of these has some things that make them less than ideal.

A few years ago I took these issues to my owners and I created a hybrid league that attempts to be the best of both worlds. It's a keeper league where it's really hard (but not impossible) to keep the best players, so the draft is always pretty robust. And it's actually pretty simple:

1st rounders - $10
2nd rounders - $9
etc. until the last round which is $1.
Several of the middle rounds repeat - like both the 4th and 5th round picks are $7

And here's where it works: The total salary cap any team is allowed to keep is just $20. This means teams almost certain

Two common issues that I continually hear are:
(1) Some owners sort of mail it in if their team isn't doing well, and
(2) How to determine next season's draft order without rewarding tanking

These may go hand-in-hand in some leagues, so here's an idea that may work for your league.

It's a game called 'Beat Your Average'. The first thing you do is after week 10 you look at every team's average ppg and write it down - this is called their 'locked average'. Then, from week 10 until week 17, keep a running total of each team's points scored. Then, whichever team INCREASED their week 10 locked average the most is the winner. (Note: all this applies to only non-playoff teams)
