I'm using esphome audio satellite on a cheap Waveshare esp32s3 ePaper board just to speak announcements via TTS, but I think the board has janky wifi and has sort of weird audio hardware because there are massive delays of 15+ seconds most of the time when sending speech to it.

I'm looking for something small and self-contained that can be powered from USB with no other wiring. Don't really care about microphone or voice input at all.

san francisco, lots of mesh traffic, good location up a hill.

two companion units (heltec v3 and v4) at the same location. Repeater on roof (Sensecap P1 Pro), can see lots of neighbors, both companions can talk to it direct.

companion 1 can say "test" on #test and get a reply from a bot almost every time.

companion 2 can say "test" and hear 6-10 repeats, companion 1 hears it direct, it almost always shows up on Corescope via multiple paths, never once has it ever gotten a response from a bot. I wiped and reinstalled as a new node, same deal.

Am I going crazy? Where do I start digging into this, for instance figuring out whether nobody hears me, or whether I don't hear replies?

I'm new to frigate so I may be misunderstanding how it's supposed to work. I have one camera facing out my front door. It does record a lot of events, like people passing by on the sidewalk.

But frequently I'll notice that there's for example a package on the porch that wasn't there in an event from an hour ago, but there's no recorded event of anyone leaving it there.

Is this because it strictly needs to detect an object, like the delivery guy isn't facing the camera or was in an odd position and wasn't detected as "person"?

I have "person" and "package" listed under "objects:" but really it would be great if it could just save a clip when significant motion was detected, because I

Trying to add an item to either brings up a chooser where you can filter by area, domain, etc, but there are no items, entities, actions, or anything else listed, nothing completes in the text box, its all just blank.

I've done the usual stuff like signing out, deleting the app, rebooting my phone, but it looks like there just isn't anything that can be added.

After uninstalling and reinstalling the app, my apple watch complications all disappeared too, and trying to add any items to a new watch configuration has the same problem - there's nothing to add.

Anyone know if there's a way the new smaller Multiplus inverters like 12/1200/50 can be told from an external source to ignore or not ignore the AC input?

There are various hacks out there like using a Cerbo GX relay output wired to the Multiplus AUX connector, but these newer small Multiplus inverters don't have one. This would otherwise work great.

I can do it with "generator" assistant rules internally to the inverter but you can't change the parameters without resetting and interrupting load power, there's no way to manually override.

I'm wondering if Node Red on the Cerbo GX can send commands to the inverter in some way, and if it's safe to do so.

Or really anything, ultimately

I'm looking at this inverter/charger but it's hard to find photos of exactly this model, they seem to be generic pictures or the 12/500 model.

I'm trying to figure out the battery cable connections - does it have studs for ring terminals or is it screw lugs you put bare stripped wire ends into, and if so, is it at an angle or straight out? Just trying to gauge (haha) how much actual space it will need with the cabling attached.

Also it looks from the datasheet like it expects maximum 2ga / 35mm^2 wire but that surprises me because it also says it's internally fused for 200 amps, which seems like not a lot of safety margin for 2ga wire.

Are the built-in balancers in pre-built batteries like the Eco-worthy 12v 280AH ones decently functional?

I'm gradually turning an old 12v lead-acid based system that was once a burning man project into something more modern. I have a Victron 150/45 MPPT controller, so I could in theory replace the old Pb batteries with these.

I'm mostly wondering:

  1. will I need to keep them right at full charge for days at a time for the internal balancer to keep them balanced, vs a DIY build with a more active balancing system?

  2. Could I just parallel two of these batteries (using suitable cabling, etc) without problems?

r/ShinobiCCTV•

this is probably a dumb question. I've just set up shinobi in order to try it out. Camera works, monitor is set up, events are detected and saved, etc.

It's possible I just don't understand how to use it. Hypothetical situation:

Someone leaves a package on my doorstep and I want to see it or know what time it happened. There are extraneous events like people walking by and going in and out, too.

I can go into the timeline view and sort of click around randomly but odds are I'm not going to get lucky and hit the two second period when the thing is happening.

I can go into "Videos" and scroll through the list, but the thumbnails for each video seems to just be the first frame, wh

I had two EAP620s and just added an EAP225-Outdoor. All three APs are wired to identically configured ports on a PoE switch.

After adoption, the EAP225 shows one of the EAP620s as its uplink, but only in the "Topology" overview screen on the (self-hosted) controller. It looks like EAP620 -> ethernet switch -> EAP225 -> Clients. The others just look like EAP620 -> Clients.

I guess it doesn't really matter since everything seems to work. I could forget and re-adopt, I guess, but is this just a bug in the controller software?

ONNX detection works on my cheap onboard Ryzen GPU using ROCm but even the pipeline feeding it uses a lot of CPU. I have a single camera at my front door and just plain motion detection with an area mask would be more than sufficient.

It could be I just don't understand Frigate, though. In the Review tab I see clips saved from when motion was detected inside the not-masked area, and that's great, in fact it's all I need.

But when I look in the Explore tab, I see hundreds of additional items for "Tracked Objects" (always a person) that passed by in the area I thought I had masked off from detection. The "frigate.detector.onnx" process is always using lots of CPU presumably to generate thes

My 1st gen seems to have air in the lines and/or ABS pump, possibly because it didn't get bled perfectly at the last service.

I don't want to try this myself, considering it's annoying enough on non-ABS brake systems, but I'm trying to learn a bit before I take it to the dealer, so I don't sound totally clueless.

Anyway -

  1. brake handle sometimes feels spongy until i pump it a few times.

  2. occasional random-ish ABS activation when it probably shouldn't - like i'll be on the brake and roll over a small bump, not enough to lose traction, and it'll do a sudden strong ABS activation. Usually only does this once or twice early in a ride and then chills out.

  3. ABS does work reliably ev

Ok I just wasted $200 on the ktm quicklock bag (9L), now tell me what I should have bought.

I wanted a small bag because I just need it for like a water bottle and my phone charger and stuff, but...

  • it isn't even fully assembled, you have to literally drill holes in the bag and bolt on the mounting plate yourself (at least they provide the drill bit??)

  • The release cable is outside, not inside the bag, so you can't even get a faint hint of security by putting a lock on the zipper, like with the side bags.

  • You have to push hard enough to snap it onto the tank ring that you can only really do it with the bag emptied out, by holding on to the plate from inside the bag.

  • it will s

I haven't even done more than comment occasionally in here, and was just "invited to join" a subreddit full of posts by a recovery scammer claiming to be able to get scam victims' money back, torment the scammers, etc.

I assume it's against the rules to identify the subreddit or user but just remember that claims to be able to recover money from scammers are always just another scam. Unfortunately it also doesn't seem possible to report subreddit invitations and there's no "scam" category for reporting posts.
