One of the most difficult things I've had to do is find some qualitative way of judging my devs' performance.

Other fields can have things like sales quotas, or widgets that come off the line.

But software development is knowledge work and a lot of their work doesn't have any useful metrics. Lines of code can be gamed and indicates worse performance (imho). Git commits can be gamed. Story points can be gamed. Ticket count isn't fair. Timelines, deadlines, and requirements change based on external forces. Bug count assumes that there are bugs in their code and that bugs are reported/discovered.

A lot of frameworks like DORA are focused on team health rather than individual performa

We got a 2025 Touring last November. It's my wife's car and she loves it, though I find myself driving it more often :)

I've noticed that when I touch the gas, there's a half second (maybe less) of hesitation before it registers. Maybe I'm just used to my Rav4 being a little more responsive. I tend to push the gas a little harder, which results in kind of a jolt because I'm pressing the gas harder when it kicks in. This annoys my wife greatly.

This isn't the auto start/stop thing, which is annoying, but I've learned to deal with it. This kind of reminds me of when I had a 2018 Toyota Highlander for a little while (which turned out to be a transmission issue with that entire model year

I've been keeping my boxes intact, but as my collection of models grows, so does my collection of boxes and it's getting out of hand.

I'm probably going to be throwing them out, but then I'll still need to find a storage solution for the instruction books and "extra" pieces.

What do you guys do about this?

I run a small IT development team. One of my employees does outstanding work, but is a little shy and reserved. I'm sure this has to do with his poor English skills. One-on-one, he's fine, but as soon as he has to present something or talk in a group, it seems that he gets a little flustered and he's hard to understand. It's workable, but things would go a lot easier for everyone if his English was better.

How do I encourage him to work on language skills without embarrassing him? I don't know how to approach the situation without coming off as insulting or demeaning. I want to help him succeed, but not sure the best way to accomplish this.

We all know that Zack is an integral part of the story, so I'm not hating on that. My problem is that with Zack now alive (I guess? I don't know... didn't play intersession yet), I'm worried he's going to overshadow Cloud. Zack is clearly a popular character since he got his own game. Heck, in my youth, I always felt Zack was superior.

As I've grown older, I feel like OG had just enough Zack in it. IMHO, the story about Cloud and how he deals with his mental health issues, is one of the most heart wrenching parts of the game. There's a lot of sadness all around (razing of Corel, Aerith's demise). But Cloud's problems tend to get buried or forgotten about. He has to deal with his fail

Please help! I checked on my positions today through the app and all my AMC and APE shares are gone! I know that the APE is being converted to AMC, but I should at least have my AMC shares, right? I didn't have much, but it was important to me :(

I need a good domain registrar. For work, I've got about 15 domains that were registered with GoDaddy by a previous tech lead. GoDaddy is a not great company and has an awful interface. There is some restructuring happening and my department is closing. We're going to be split up into two separate teams, and will be splitting the domains between the teams. This seems like a good chance to get our domains out of GoDaddy and set up on a new registrar.

Any recommendations?

Let me be blunt: The price of dogecoin has absolutely nothing to do with Elon's antics... Twitter, SpaceX, Tesla... completely irrelevant.

The only reason the ATH got as high as it did was because the news was reporting on it. Elon's tweets may have bumped it a bit, but the main boost was all the news coverage of that event, which got us a lot of exposure. Unless the headline were "SpaceX to launch Starship funded by Dogecoin", this launch had no chance.

The only reason we're seeing a slight increase right now is because there's a lot of people buying in the hopes that the launch would actually raise the price.

The only thing that will raise the price is the amount that gets purchased

Corporate just mandated some new performance evaluation standards. One of the things they want is a measurable metric to guide the performance expectations. Problem is, I manage a team of software developers at a research center. I strongly believe in a qualitative approach to performance, so I've never bothered with any kind of metrics. They do great work and our clients are always pleased, but there's nothing quantitative about that.

So, my question is what kind of metrics are there that could be used. If I'm going to be doing something, I'd rather it be actually useful at some level. Or should I make up some kind of fake story point thing?
