Greetings Hive Mind of NoVA!

I’m looking for a garage door repair (or potential replacement) company that does good work and provides quality parts.

I’m uncertain the age of the garage door, but I feel like it’s time to replace in part because of part of the base beginning to fall apart.

The current door is a basic insulated door - not quite certain there exists newer insulated doors that are able to let excess heat from cars escape… without letting the cold or heat in.

Nevertheless, any recommendations for companies you all have worked with I’d appreciate.

Thanks in advance!

Curious question, but what’s the deal with the BP Station near Fairfax Corner on Main Street? Their hours have always befuddled me. . . Mostly in that as a gas station I would expect that they have hours that extend from early morning into the evening… but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

It always seems that they’re closed… even on days like today when they have an Amazon Prime / Earnify discount deal.

Anyone know what the background story is of their limited hours?

Curious but has anyone else received a message recently from Verizon stating that the Mobile + Home Enrollment Discount Fios was being received in error?

Recently got a generic message from Verizon in the mail stating that I had been receiving the Mobile + Home Enrollment Discount in error, which I'm confused by since I linked the accounts so that I would qualify.

Anyone else happen to see a Verizon Fios outage in Northern Virginia this morning between 1:21 AM Eastern and 1:32 AM Eastern?

My Unifi Dream Machine Pro is showing an outage as well as high latency during that time. Curious if this is on the Verizon side or if my UDM is acting up.

So I picked up a U7 Outdoor to replace a U6 Mesh that I’ve had in my garage running to give my drive way and cup de sac network coverage. It seems though that the speed has slowed and the range hasn’t been significantly increased. I don’t have a direct drop to this location and it’s been meshing off of another device, and yes I changed from PoE to PoE++ in the process to power it.

Am I doing something wrong, does it just take time to attenuate or is it truly meant only for the exterior of a house and “I’m doing it wrong”?

Perhaps the 4x4 5 GHz configuration of the U6 Mesh works better than the 2x2 that the U7 Outdoor has?

Thanks for any thoughts and insights.

Anyone else noticing page elements dropping out of the Admin Dashboard on UDM Pro recently? I've rebooted the UDM Pro but still missing components (Network configuration under /network/default/settings/networks) as well as Internet Health seem to have disappeared.

Is this something that requires logging in and clearing out content, or is this more systemic?

Oddly this all shows up in the app.

I may have spoken too soon about being excited to have an installer come out and put in the 2 Gbps NG-PON2 ONT and light up the fiber here in Northern Virginia.

Four and a half days later and poof, the device ONT loses connectivity to the Verizon Fios network. So, we're offline for a few days until a tech can come back out.

Anyone else experience this when they moved from NG-PON to NG-PON2? Any chance that the ONT's power source needed to be swapped out when they swapped the ONT itself?

Since Verizon took away the "availability" page as to where Verizon FIOS 2 Gbps offering has been made available I figured that I would come ask here - how far south has it spread? Last I heard / checked, it had made its way down through the Philadelphia area and in some parts of Delaware. Anyone in Maryland or Virginia seeing 2 Gbps offering available to them yet?

Looking for details as to whether or not 5G / 5G+ coverage actually exists in the Northern Virginia area. Trying to understand whether it’s just with a not great provisioning of an eSIM on prepaid, or if the 5Ge network is all that’s actually available.

Anyone able to share details as to where about’s they see 5G / 5G+ and whether you’re on prepaid or postpaid?

Thanks in advance!

Is there a difference between Prepaid "Max" accounts versus Postpaid when it comes to tower access?

Seems that Prepaid 5G has limited tower access versus Postpaid 5G. Curious if the Max level account bypasses this and gets equal treatment as the Postpaid access.

After doing a little bit of reading it would seem that AT&T Prepaid customers "coverage map" is deceptive in that it says only 5G coverage, but support says no it also includes 5G+ - no special unlock required.

My curiosity though is where the map shows 5G+ doesn't seem to exist... even at the 5G or 5Ge level. Note that this is when observing LTE coverage when outside - I know in some cases C-band isn't able to penetrate houses roofs / walls.

Is this just AT&T publishing map updates before reality or prepaid not getting the same network access that postpaid receives?

I installed a Weather Tempest this past February and for the most part it’s been able to charge just fine through solar. However this week with the changing of the seasons it would seem that either something is up with the internal battery not charging to where it needs to or I need to find it a new home where it is able to get additional solar radiation.

Anyone happen to have a recommendation for how to troubleshoot the device using the information in the app or is my best bet literally just to move it and see if that makes a viable difference? Thanks for your thoughts in advance!

There's a tower near me here in Northern Virginia that has B2, B13, B66.

Within iPhone 14 Pro's FTM, it shows Band 66 and Band 2 as having a state of Deactivated.

There's another tower nearby that is broadcasting B5. Oddly I'm picking up B48 (but it's not on the cellmapper.net site anywhere).

Is there a possibility that we're going to see N77 light up connected to the B48 and see B2/B66 be decommissioned with B13 continuing on?

I’m curious if anyone happens to have thoughts, but why on an iPad Pro (M1) would I be able to attain a 5G signal on AT&T, but at the same spot I see just an LTE signal with an iPhone 14 Pro? Is that a function of something in iOS?

Looking in Field Test Mode on the iPhone it definitely sees new radio connections but isn’t changing over to them.

Appreciate any thoughts… or if this belongs somewhere other than iOS, happy to move to that subreddit.
