In protest of Reddit's API changes, I have just finished deleting as much of my post and comment history as possible. I have heard that this list has been useful for many readers over the years, so I am reposting the list as a new post here, instead of a comment.

I expect I will be using Reddit very little, if at all, going forward. I will not be updating this list any longer.

Thank you all! It's been fabulous being part of this community.

Each subsection has my favourites near the top, then aren't really in order.

I need hibernation on my laptop as I frequently go hours between use of my computer for work, but need to have files open & "ready to go" when I get to a job site. I'm using an underpowered device, so Windows 10 Ameliorated is absolutely perfect, aside from missing hibernation.

Is there any way to add hibernation back to Win 10 Ameliorated, or do I need to try to figure out the full custom build process to skip the step that removes hibernation?

Edit:

Lookin through the scripts, the only spot that I can find "hibernat" is this section:

:: Disable Hibernation to make NTFS accessable outside of Windows
powercfg /h off

I guess I should try to run the following and see if it wor

I just timed launching the game until the Nintendo logo appears, and it takes consistently 3m24-26s from the time I click "launch game" to launch Mario Kart Arcade GP DX 1.10.22 with the English patch. (Granted, ~10s of that is the message about the game only being legal in Japan, but still 3m15s seems crazy long!)

My build is an i5-12400 + RX 6650 XT with 32GB of DDR4 3200MHz RAM and an NVME SSD.

It seems to take forever on the Authentication check (1 min+?), but it eventually passes. I'm assuming the long launch time must be based on some connections that aren't set up timing out, since my rig is able to launch much more demanding games in <20 seconds.

In response to 80% of these, I want to tell them there's a high-quality clone set for ~10% after-market prices! (But it's against r/Lego rules.)

Not the only reason I like clone sets so much. (ngl, price is a big one!) But getting retired sets is a huge part of the appeal.

Edit: forgot to include the link, ha ha!

Hi everyone. I'm completely out of the loop on Minecraft. The last time I played, there wasn't xp or a hunger bar.

I'm trying to buy a Minecraft book for my nephew (age 10) who knows some basics in Minecraft, but nothing "advanced" (I don't think), and I was hoping to get a guidebook that covers more interesting parts of Minecraft like redstone (and whatever other more advanced things have been added to the game since 2010; enchanting, alchemy, and The End?).

Are there any physical guide books that are worth buying? The ones that seem most popular are many years old, so I assume they're way out of date.

Any help or direction would be much appreciated!

Edit: I didn't install CPU power connections. I'm guessing that's my problem. D'oh. Going to try that now, then I'll update.

Steps I have taken so far:

  1. Installed the PSU into the case
  2. Did a visual inspection of the motherboard, RAM, i5 and socket; I don't know what to look for, tbh, but everything looked good and were all brand-new parts.
  3. Installed RAM into the DDR4_A2 and DDR4_B2 slots (page 14 of the ASRock B660 RS PRO manual indicates those two slots are "Populated" in the Priority 1 slots). I heard it click as each side pressed in and the locking arm snapped shut.
  4. Inserted the i5 into the socket directly vertically. (And checked that the gold corner of the i5 socket was p

###Build Help/Ready:

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

My heaviest use would be screen recording tutorial videos for students in Minecraft Education edition.

Most of my use will be using web apps (LMS) with many tabs open (I frequently have 60+ browser tabs).

I am also a patient gamer; I don't really care about running the latest & greatest games at high specs, but I would like to run games at 1440p 75Hz (to match my monitor). My son likes cars, so running racing sims would be a cool bonus, but not essential.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

I was hoping to keep it to ~$1070 CAD ($1200 CAD with tax), but I have some flexibility.

TL;DR: Title.

More details:

I'm a complete racing game newbie. I've been a gamer for my whole life, but I never got into racing games. The last one I "played" was maybe F-ZERO for SNES? And I sucked at it.

My son loves his 6V ride-on car and loves pretending to drive our cars or helping us pull in and out of the garage. He's been obsessed with car toys since age 2. Cars is his favourite movie. I think he's going to love playing with a "real" racing wheel...

... but he's 5, so I'm looking for something that's easier than easy and incredibly forgiving, but that will still hopefully teach him some racing/driving fundamentals.

So, I'm looking for any/all suggestions.

The priest reads them their last rites, then the king orders the executioner to kill the physicist.

The executioner offers the physicist two choices: would he like a hood on or off, and would he like to be executed face up or face down. The physicist replies, "I spent my whole life studying the heavens. I would like to face the sky, with the hood on like night!"

The executioner positions the physicist and drops the blade...
... and it stops inches from the physicists' neck.

The priest cries, "It's a sign from God! This man is innocent! Set him free!", so the king pardons him, and orders the mathematician executed next.

The executioner offers the mathematician the same choices: would he
