We held off writing this until we had moved and settled. There was a lot of anger over this given how it delayed our home sale, forcing us to eat into our savings, and I wanted to reflect back when I was over it. Turns out, I'm still wicked fucking pissed six months later. :)

If you're looking for septic work, especially septic inspections, do NOT use Fogle. They are either at BEST incompetent, or at worst straight up liars in service of their paycheck.

When my wife and I bought our home in Knoxville in 2014, Fogle performed the septic inspection at the request of the realtor. It passed in all possible ways, which was good because we had a VA loan and it needed to meet the stringent requi

Angus King voted in favor of making it harder to take guns away from mentally ill veterans who have been deemed incompetent to handle their own affairs. He did so only hours before a mentally ill veteran shot up two locations and killed 18.

Every time we warn people about the dangers of mixing firearms with the mentally ill, they refuse to listen. While the vote didn't make this tragedy happen, it WILL make future tragedies more possible. We should be stiffening the nation-wide laws that report mental health issues and remove guns from people who are suffering, not loosening them. That will prevent MORE people from suffering when/if they end up using those firearms.

I have a continual problem with my upcoming release. The formatting of the description always includes extra lines between paragraphs, which looks unprofessional. I've tried copy/pasting from a text document; tried typing it out manually; tried going into Source and editing the HTML. But the visual design problem persists, even after I get the confirmation email that my book is (yet again) published. Yet, in KDP the description is formatted perfectly.

Anyone else have issues with this and suggestions on what else to try? Or am I simply not being patient enough and need to wait many more days for my changes to be reflected within the Amazon page itself?

EDIT: and it's corrected now. Multipl

I see threads with people stating that they report a problem and they never hear back and it never gets resolved. I think I may understand WHY this is happening now, particularly in light of the relatively quick support resolution I got when I had a gifting issue (account over 30 days, plus ESO+, but gifting was still telling me I needed to wait 30 days every day I logged in).

If you are opening a "bug report" to report your problem, you are dropping your issue into the lap of the coders along with a thousand other bugs they're working on. They are going to look at it, determine if it's one they've seen, and either add it to the list of issues they need to fix or ignore you. You aren't goin

My wife and I are both playing and added each other as friends. Initially, we could see each other's names listed on the left side of the screen, with a bar indicating current health. We could also see each other on the mini-map when we were in the same zone (a little white ^ shape indicating where each other was), and a crown in the compass. Neither of us installed any add-ons, just the base game plus whatever DLC we had purchased (we bought the same version).

Now, the names are gone from the screen, and we can no longer see each other on the mini-map, even when we're in visible sight of each other. And when I search for reasons why, I see that we're NOT supposed to be able to see each oth

Working up some short stories that will help with worldbuilding for a novel series I'm planning to do sometime down the road. This is one of the first. I haven't shared anything in a long time so I figured I'd see what folks thought and get some critiques on what's working and what's not working.

Note: the novel series will revolve a fictional WWI setting with technologically adept nations fighting nations that rely heavily on magic.

This query has been through so many revisions it's almost comical. But I got some professional help this time, and, after making further tweaks of my own based on that advice, I think it finally hits all the right notes. Let me know what folks think.

Dear <Agent>,

Mirabel Sinclair is learning her trade from the respected detective Ben Templeton, and the Templeton Agency has a simple case: find a goose that lays golden eggs. But when she discovers the troll who’s paying the tab might be working for the mob, Mr. Templeton decides she’s not ready to investigate on her own.

Everything seems aces until Mr. Templeton is murdered right before her eyes. Now Mirabel is on her own, dealing wi

As part of a discussion in another group, the question of where I've been going to get my queries critiqued came up. I wanted to share the information here as well since I see these requests show up periodically and know a lot of us struggle with how to structure our query letters so we can improve the number of partial and full requests we are receiving. As always, though, I hope u/BiffHardCheese brings back the periodic query critique thread here. :)

REDDIT

Besides requesting query critiques here on r/writing, there are a couple of other places where you can ask for them and receive advice.

r/yawriters holds a regular Query Critique thread and have stated all are welcome to part

EDIT (8/24/16): I've removed the link, I think I have more than enough comments to move forward on this piece and don't want to undermine the possibility of publishing it down the road. Thanks all!

This was a piece I worked on about a year ago but put aside for the sake of the noir Fantasy novel I've finished several drafts of and now have out to agents. This is a "hidden world" novel, where the fantasy world is hidden from the real world, aka The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (but without the wardrobe, and a more adult story). So the question is: does the change make sense? Or does the piece work better rooted in the "real" world with magical realism and should stay there?
