If you are trying to use the new LaTeX tagging features or fix transparency issues in LyX, you’ve probably run into the error:

! LaTeX DocumentMetadata Error: \DocumentMetadata should be used only before \documentclass

This happens because the LaTeX Preamble in LyX settings is injected after the \documentclass and internal font setups.

The Fix in LyX 2.4: You don't need to edit layout files or export to TeX manually. LyX 2.4 added a specific field for this:

  1. Go to Document > Settings > PDF Properties.
  2. Go to the Document Metadata tab/field.
  3. Paste your keys directly into the box without the command itself. For example:`testphase={phase-III,math},pdfstandard=

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to produce a tagged, accessible PDF using LyX 2.4 (Format 104) and LuaLaTeX (TeX Live 2025/2026). I’m specifically trying to use the new kernel-level tagging with: \DocumentMetadata{testphase={phase-III,math},pdfstandard=A-4,lang=en-US}

The Problem: As many of you know, \DocumentMetadata must be the very first command in the source file. However, LyX’s header generation keeps injecting its own code (like font encodings and inputenc) before anything I put in the "LaTeX Preamble" GUI.

I’ve tried creating a custom .layout file to inject the code, but the logs still show \DocumentMetadata being called after the document class or internal LyX se

It has been probably been brought up before so please be kind, or don't.

I know about maixma-jupyter, but there has to be a manual way to just incorporate maxima in Jupyter in the notebook.

I guess what I am saying is there a more difficult way to get maxima involved in a new jupyter notebook?
