I’m aware - and often ashamed - of my fawning for safety. It’s as if my genuine responses or instincts are filtered by “niceness” before it comes out. Recently I’ve thought about being more direct, bold and possibly rude/mean since I KNOW ITS THERE. It’s more that I’m afraid of letting that air out bc I think it’s probably unrefined and maybe “too much”/insensitive/childish yada yada.

Has anyone done this and have success or good stories? Looking for a long-term switch in ways of being

It’s way too easy to minimize and overlook the seemingly small behavior changes, boundaries that you’ve set, and new ways of responding etc. and go straight back to “oh my god I have so much to overcome”.

This is a groove that has kept me stuck in the muck of it without realizing the progress I’ve made along the way.

I like the analogy of the scaffolding surrounding a cathedral in repair (the cathedral being you). Journaling, saving tokens, printing screenshots of small/big wins and behavior changes can be seen as the (seemingly flimsy yet needed) pieces of scaffolding needed to make the long term repairs to the entire structure. (These are essential restructuring pieces/moments)

It’s the cliché stoner panic attack of thinking other people are all in on a joke about you. That there’s a sub-text conversation going on about how “stupid” you are.

I’ve had a few of these before, and know how selfishly silly it can be in retrospect. However, in the moment, it is a horrible storm to be stuck in. Holed up in your head over-analyzing everything to find the clues of it being true.

I’ve stopped smoking for my healing journey. But I’ve recently had these similar panic attacks return while sober!! Last month I had one during an ACoA meeting where I know those people to be “safe”.

Can anyone relate to this? Any suggestions on how to deal with this? I can cognitively unders

Growing up, my parents used sly sarcasm (a lot). Which made it almost impossible to decipher what was going on as a kid.

I remember, however, being able to feel this in my body (but having to contend with my thoughts/words because they would deny). Most of the time I’d end up feeling ridiculed, put down, and shut out of any genuine conversation.

It’s been a real mindf*ck and seems to be at the core of my panic attacks. If I’m overwhelmed or tired I can get stuck in my head, second guessing anything that is being said around me, and spiral into delusions.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this? How to get out of your head?

Amazing movie with many interpretations. It felt very spiritual to me as it seemed to center around Oliver letting go of the approval of others and becomings his own source of light. Yes he did horrible things, but he played by the Catton family rules (to the extreme).

Anyone else see this as a people pleaser’s Hero Journey?
