Hospital based midwife. Need to vent on a birth overnight.
Woman brought in my ambulance to birth suite. Unknown gestation, no care in pregnancy. Baby number 8, she thinks she’s about 30 weeks.
A quick search on the system shows she’s known to child services. No kids in her care, all removed and in foster care.
CTG shows almost no variability and unprovoked decels. No contractions. She says all her other babies have been born by caesarean. She only came in because she had a bleed at home.
Consented and prepped for theatre. Baby born flat and needed a full resus, stabilised then transferred to NICU.
Just as the lady was put under (did not consent for a spinal, wanted GA), the obstetricia
It may be coincidental, but since our adopted 6 year old was desexed, she’s been destroying toys. Anything cuddly.
She has zero interest in the “tough” toys. Anything rubbery or similar, she chews for a bit then ignores. Anything soft and even tennis balls, she absolutely destroys.
She used to have a cuddly pig toy she’d snuggle up to, but that has since been shredded.
Is there such a thing as a soft toy that is less likely to be destroyed in 2 minutes?

I’ve been sober just over 3 months now. Nothing much compared to some legends on here, but a solid run for me.
I was anxious about our work Christmas party, as I’ve always been the one to get started early with pre-drinks and push everyone to go bar-hopping late into the wee hours of the morning.
I did basically the same thing, except NA beer for pre-drinks and was able to safely drive my friends home, saving Uber fares.
And I stuck to tonic water, Pepsi Max and NA beer. And it was so much fun. Still went hard at karaoke and danced my feet off.
My colleagues didn’t even realise I wasn’t drinking. And I remembered everything.
Thanks to this sub for the inspo.
Another mum at school told me her kids get $5 per tooth.
I feel like this is a bit much. Need to know as our eldest has his first wobbly tooth.
Hey big boob friends,
I work as a midwife; and I have also breastfed two little people.
I am hoping for a bit of feedback, as well as informal research as to how I could help big boobed people feed their babies better!
What was helpful for you as a big breasted person to breastfeed?
Or what was unhelpful?
I was super lucky that my giant boobs had the milk ducts that could make plenty of milk. But I’m also aware that big breasts don’t necessarily mean lots of milk!
Any comments are helpful for other BF people that I can pass on.
My own personal advice: roll up a small towel and prop your breast on it. It’s a nice little platform for baby to easily keep the breast in their mouth.
I have a lump that is getting biopsied at present. Could be scary, could be nothing.
My partner asked how I was feeling about it all.
I said, “well if it’s bad news, at least I won’t have bipolar anymore!”
The dharug man smiled as the white fella disappeared.
I was chatting to my mum this morning about how my younger sister has officially been diagnosed with ADHD as an adult.
She said “oh yes I got you tested when you were 5 for ADD [as it was known] and the doctor just told me you had it but you just needed to be more stimulated and you’d grow out of it.”
So now I fast forward 30 years and maybe I have ADHD????
But I also have loooong episodes of depression and suicide attempts plus a bonus of alcoholism.
So yep. Doubting myself and my diagnosis. I’m seeing my psychiatrist in November (thanks to my country’s healthcare system) so I might bring it up then.
Just a little rant/vent/existential crisis.
I work as a hospital-based midwife.
At the moment we have a pregnant lady under our care who genuinely has EDS. Her symptoms are mainly gastrointestinal-related.
It was an unplanned pregnancy; she has a jejunostomy; has faecal incontinence; lots of GI symptoms. A decade of steroids has caused Cushings Syndrome. She has a stack of other symptoms, and being in her 40s, it was a miracle that she got pregnant, but here she is.
I think what the munchies don’t realise is how much harm they’re doing to people who are genuinely unwell. This lady is so kind and lovely, yet the cynical side of my brain is trying to persuade me she’s faking.
But she doesn’t have an emotional support animal, a gli
I’ve lived with this disorder for over 20 years.
I’m exhausted. Keeping up with meds, diet, exercise, talk therapy.
It’s exhausting.
It’s like staring down the barrel of a gun, but I’m the one holding it, one hand always on the trigger.
I have an amazingly supportive husband and two wonderful children. They are my protective factors.
But I fear that one day that won’t be enough.
So for those who are living the long-haul: what keeps you going?
