As a long time lighthouse user (Vive 2016 -> Index 2019 -> BSB2 2025) I was very skeptical of how well the Frame's inside out tracking was going to work, especially after spending some time with a Quest 3 which didn't particularly impress me. Lighthouse has always been the gold standard for roomscale VR tracking and while I was expecting a good experience with the Frame, I wasn't expecting it to break the laws of physics. Lighthouse can track the controllers when they're behind your head, or behind your back, because there's multiple basestations around the room and nothing can beat that. Fundamentally, a standalone headset has inside-out cameras which need a direct line of sight to the co

I just finished playing through the first half of Doom 2016 on the Frame standalone, 720p, high/ultra settings, at a somewhat steady 30fps (25-45fps), with the headset itself at 90hz.

A few notes:

* I'm comparing this to the Switch 1 port of Doom 2016 as well as the PC version, both of which I've played through many times. The Frame's performance is better than the Switch 1 port and at significantly higher graphics settings.

* The controllers work really well as a gamepad, and gyro aiming and rumble worked out of the box with the official gamepad configuration. The feel of the controllers themselves took a little while to get used to, but I have found that completely loosening the ergo

I recently came across these aftermarket boiler pipes for the 9Barista, specifically for making ristretto:

https://coweetwares.com/products/sectional-inlet-pipe-for-9barista-38416

The idea is very simple, the boiler is filled with 120ml of water like normal but the shorter pipe means that only 20ml charge can make it up the pipe instead of 40ml. This avoids the need to do the "ristretto hack" of under-filling, and instead just screw or unscrew the bottom section of pipe.

Has anyone used this product or knows if it works with a Mk.2? I'm also tempted to just order a spare Mk.2 boiler pipe and shorten it myself since the OEM part is significantly cheaper. Then just swap the entire pipe over

I noticed a few things on this FreeDesktop DRM MSM issue #80 from May 21 2025.

It starts with the line:

Panic is observed with below command on a 2160x2160 panel that is driven by 2 pipes in DPU.

which caught my attention since it's the Frame's display resolution. Then in the actual stack trace it is immediate followed by:

Hardware name: SM8650 EV1 rev1 4slam 2et (DT)

So "SM8650 EV1 rev1 4slam 2et " is a Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 system with 2160x2160 displays, 4 SLAM cameras, and 2 eyetracking cameras. This is almost certainly Steam Frame EV1.

DRM is the Linux kernel Direct Rendering Manager. MSM is the Snapdragon Adreno GP

It's widely understood that while UMD games are region free, UMD Video discs use the same region locking scheme as DVD movies:

  • Region 0 / ALL: Worldwide (region-free)
  • Region 1: North America, Central America, Latin America
  • Region 2: Europe (without Russia or Belarus), Japan, Middle East, South Africa, Greenland
  • Region 3: Southeast Asia, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong
  • Region 4: Oceania, South America
  • Region 5: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, India, Pakistan, Africa (without Egypt or South Africa), North Korea, Mongolia
  • Region 6: China

And just like DVDs, discs are allowed to mix and match regions as the publisher sees fit, and those regions are printed on the back of the UMD Video c
