Outdoor Target Help

Range Setup and Targets

Near where I live, there’s an outdoor range that is free and open to all. There are targets that have a rubber horse mat backing on wooden posts, and that’s it.

The rules of the range state you can’t shoot into the mats, and should use a target instead.

Since I’ll be riding my bike to the range, I’d prefer not to carry a large target each time (doable with my bike trailer, but not ideal). I live in the PNW (SW WA), and we have wet winters and dry/hot summers, so hay bales are basically out of the question. I’d love to make or get something for 3-8 of the target stands there that will be long lasting, and can be used by everyone to enjoy 24/7.

Any recommendations on this?

Hi all,

I’m starting my journey into (traditional) archery after over 20 years since I last shot a bow. Ive forgotten everything, but am watching videos to re-educate myself, and will look into taking some local courses.

In the meantime, I’m looking for recommendations on two things:

  1. A good starter longbow. Not opposed to 3-piece bows, but just looking for something high quality that I can really learn from until I want to switch out the pieces or get a heavier bow. Under $200 would be great, and unless someone has a better recommendation, I was thinking 20-25#.

  2. Any ideas on making or buying a target bag? There’s an outdoor archery range near me that’s open all the time, but it on

Hey! My wife and I are visiting from Vancouver WA/Portland from this Thursday until Saturday. I lead the local Urbanist organization Cycle Vancouver up in the PNW, and am always looking to meet other Urbanist/transit/bicycling minded people in cities we visit.

Are there any Urbanist groups here that have a meetup this week, or any local urbanists want to meet for a coffee and go on a bike ride?

Thank you, and I’m looking forward to exploring your beautiful town and seeing all of the progress it’s made since I last visited!

Tonight at 6:00pm, there’s going to be a Comprehensive Plan Workshop hosted by Cycle Vancouver at Niche Wine Bar.

It’s a great time to get to understand how the upcoming Comprehensive Plan will benefit our city and residents, and how to give feedback.

If you’re just curious about how the rezoning will benefit your area, how urban planning works, or want to be more involved in urbanism here in Vancouver, definitely stop by!
