Hey everyone,

I’m a final-year B.Tech Civil Engineering student and seriously considering preparing for the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) conducted by UPSC. My goal is to get into organizations like CPWD, Railways, or BRO and build a long-term career in the government sector.

However, I’m still figuring out the best way to start and structure my preparation. I’d really appreciate some advice from those who have cleared or are currently preparing for ESE (especially in Civil Engg).

A few questions I have:

  1. How should I start my ESE preparation from scratch? Should I begin with standard books or join a coaching institute?
  2. **Is self-study realistic

Hi everyone,

I'm a final-year B. Tech Civil Engineering student, and I’m trying to get clarity on my career path. I’m particularly interested in working in the government domain (like CPWD, Indian Railways, PWD, etc.), but I’m also curious to know about career growth in the private/industry sector – especially in India, Japan, or the Middle East.

  2. Is it worth preparing for ESE or State Engineering Services while working, or should one go full-time?

Hey everyone,

I’m from India and currently studying civil engineering. There’s something that really bothers me here, and I wanted to get honest perspectives from people who work (or have worked) in other countries, especially Japan, UAE, Saudi, Qatar, etc.

In India, it’s sadly quite common in civil engineering and construction projects for contractors or site engineers to “save” a large part of the allocated project money. For example: if a project budget allows spending ₹10, people might end up actually spending just ₹4–5 and pocketing the rest (sometimes shared across the chain). Since these projects are often worth crores, someone might “earn” several times their official annual sa
