I have a small project - under-stairs storage - where an 18g nail gun/brad nailer would be very useful. But, I don't know how much I'll use it in the future. I mainly have Dewalt cordless tools, and the Dewalt brad nailer is £300. Does anyone have experience with the cheapo no-name nailers available on Amazon for less than £100?

My wife and I are US citizens who live in the UK. We're struggling with investing when we can't buy mutual funds or ETFs, unless we lie to a brokerage. Most of our investible assets are with Fidelity. They offer something called "Fidfolios", which are relatively low-fee managed accounts. The versions that are meant to perform like an index fund have a fee of .4%, which is obviously worse than the 0.015% they charge for FXAIX but still seems reasonable. Does anyone have any experience with these funds? Any other suggestions? I've been looking at doing something similar myself (buying a bunch of individual stocks), but presumably they have more expertise in this.

At this point I've given up on actually doing anything on their website and am just entertaining myself by finding all the ways it doesn't work. "Bad gateway" is a favourite.

Joe's accent

SpoilerThat's my story and I'm sticking to it

I don't think this is actually a spoiler, but in an abundance of caution...

I think someone told Alanson that RC Bray's Maine accent wasn't quite right, so he added in the back story that Joe had lived in Boston for a few years as a kid.

I grew up in Maine, and when I started listening to the books I was thinking "it's better than the usual over-the-top old-timey Down East accent, but not quite right." Then in one of the later books, the Boston bit was mentioned and then it made perfect sense.

There were some other things with the accent that got better in the later books, both with the writing and the pronunciation. Joe started saying "ayuh," which is a cliche because it's true. And RC s

It's my understanding that tenants who occupy an entire property are treated differently under the law than borders who live with the owner of a property. If my son lives in a flat that I own (long leasehold w/share of freehold) and friends of his live in the flat with him and pay rent, are they tenants or borders? If two friends (who are not related to him or to each other) live with him, does that make the flat an HMO? This is in England.

I hate these posts as a rule, but couldn't help myself. I'm watching Andor, and Rupert Vansittart as Chief Hyne just needs to change out of his uniform and into the white robes of the Arch Lector and he is Sult. It helps that so far it appears to be basically the same character - a higher-up in a police/security role who cares about appearances more than the truth. And his accent is sort of posh, but with some slight/weird deviations from RP.

Just finished listening to The Trouble with Peace. I love the quote from Caurib when she's talking to an aggravated Rikke, who wants certainty: "If it had rules it wouldn't be magic." I read this as JA poking fun at people (fans) who obsess over things like magic systems.

I have an old house with old plumbing. The cold-water pressure in the kitchen is quite strong while the hot-water pressure is weaker but still adequate. The problem is that the cold water overwhelms the hot water, making it hard to get the right mix for the kitchen sink. Can I install some kind of restricter on the cold water supply to the tap to get the right balance? Could I just install a shut-off valve between the supply and the tap and partially close it? Is that viable for the long term?

I'm an (amateur) landscape photographer based in London. I'm looking for suggestions for places I can go for short stays (1-2 nights) to take photos. The limitation is I'll be taking my dog with me. He's getting older, but is happy to walk about 2 miles in a day.

So, ideally places that are within about a 3-hours drive of London, dogs are allowed, and you can reach interesting landscapes within a relatively easy walk. If anyone could share their favorites, I'd greatly appreciate it.
