Great article here by Mirtle. diving into the Canadian Goalie lack of development. its a long read but a very good one.

the TLDR of it really is that the hyper focus on winning at such a young age has robbed kids of exploring goaltending as an option, and really lowered the number of kids trying out to be goalie. kids are learning one position... and to focus on winning....vs other countries where being a goalie at a young age is discouraged and more of a shared responsibility. it 'finds' other goalies.

i've long been against these super teams and having kids play hockey 12 months of the year. camps and training all summer to play rep hockey in the winter. its not healthy, it doesnt

This was actually a great read. Not sure who heard the Leafs Report pod (Jonas and Mirtle) this week, but they had a serious back and forth with Jonas doing his usual gloom review of the leafs and his typical "they shouldnt be winning based on spreadsheets"

This article really breaks down and makes some great points as to why they are:

  • simple chart of goals for against over the season, showing the ups and downs of the season, but us always being on the right side of that. a special note on this one was that we had a serious downturn in the GF at one point (matthews et al injured and we had a lineup with 4 marlies in it)...but during that time we had elite level defense and goaltending

i'll just put his points... people have varying opinions on Jonas' opinions. be better to have our own discussion on it.

1. There’s maybe no bigger problem right now for the Leafs than the power play

2. What’s most surprising about all the rush chances and defensive breakdowns the Leafs have given up in the last couple of games is who’s often been involved: the Matthews-led first line.

3. Other than Matthews, the situation at centre feels very unsettled, with no clear path forward that improves things.

**4. I wonder if the Leafs need to think about breaking up Matthews and Marner in the hopes of creating (or trying to create) three balanced lines with a reasonable chance t

1. Which Mitch Marner shows up?

2. Will Max Pacioretty prove he can stay healthy and still contribute?

3. Can Easton Cowan make a run for roster spot?

4. Who lines up at centre?

5. Is Jani Hakanpää healthy enough to contribute?

6. Who gets the first look with Oliver Ekman-Larsson?

7. Can Joseph Woll quickly stake his claim to the No. 1 job?

8. Are major

With the Mod search and such going on....we lost this, but always something I enjoyed checking in on during the days...hoping some people can chime in!!

I'll start. Perry. I'd take him in a heart beat....under the assumption that whatever happened in Chicago isn't egregious. given that the league didn't suspend him, I'm going to assume it wasn't. But I'd take him on our 4th line over Reaves any day.

Lol...

just listening to yesterday's POD.

O's expert analysis talking about how Cooper's message to his team yesterday would have been to get on them early, quiet Monday night crowd, "If they're up 2-0 after the first it's over"

I mean O wasnt wrong...in theory. just funny how the game went.

always the problem listening to the show the next day though.

spoiler: Mo is elite.

I recall heading into playoffs how many on reddit (specifically r/leafs) wanted Mo gone, called him 3rd pairing or 7th D man on the team. no respect.... Leafs nation doesn't deserve Mo.

(posting here vs r/leafs cause i can't follow all their posting rules and seems more chill over here)

Jonas gave his questions for each leaf player this year (paywall)

too many top copy and paste them all...but some interesting ones in there, and a complete disregard for the salary cap lol.

one intriguing one to me is he has aston-reese replacing simmonds as the most physical player, and simmons actually off the team. sounds about right...unfortunately for simmer.
