She needed a Book Character Day costume and asked for Matilda. I ended up getting one from sewist.com, realizing the material I got was too sheer, decided if I was going to have to line it I was basically making a second dress so I might as well make a second dress and make it reversible, and having to look up a bunch of things because the sewist directions are not always the most clear and I was modifying it to be reversible. Many mistakes were made, and a few things were learned. In the end, I'm pretty proud.
On a whim today, I bought a really pretty dark shiny blue velvet remnant. It's 7/8 of a yard, and I think wof is 32". My 5 year old wants a shirt and skirt from it, but a) I'm not sure I have enough for two pieces like that, and b) poking around at patterns, I can't find any two piece ones that fit this fabric. Help! Throw me any and all ideas.
I teach middle school science, and our school has decided that small groups need to be a Thing for everyone, no matter the subject. I have never really heard of small groups for science, particularly in this way- they want us to be pulling kids to do remediation, so taking the data on who isn't quite getting something, and pulling those 4-5 kids to get them a little more up to speed.
Has anyone done small groups, either this kind or where you give an assignment and pull a group to give extra support while they're working (much more doable, but still not something I've really seen science classes do, mostly we circulate to groups as needed/to check in with everyone)? Do you have any tips, a
I don't know that this is gerd, but given that all the cardiac tests came back totally fine, my doctor is thinking that gerd is likely and we're trying famotidine. The one very weird aspect that doesn't fit is that my symptoms go away in the late evening (like 9-10pm) and then don't come back until mid-morning. Has anyone else experienced that? Is that a thing?
Just in case it's relevant, symptoms are primarily shortness of breath, like asthma, and chest pressure/pain. When I saw the doctor today, it also had switched to feeling like heartburn rather than pressure, but that's new.
This might be a really dumb question, but. I'm very slowly degoogling, and setting up apps before I unhook Google's tentacles.
I have Open Camera and Ente, but when I take a photo, and then, with Open Camera still open, click on the thumbnail of the picture I just took, it opens it in Google photos. How do I change that? How do I make Ente (or any other album app) the default for opening and editing pictures?
We have a small mouse problem, and my 4 year old is thrilled. So thrilled that she created a playground for them. She's so excited about the idea of mice going on the slide and through the tunnels and resting in the bed and sitting at the table that I need someone to shop in some (at least semi-realistic) mice having a blast on her creation. https://imgur.com/a/2YsuTvw
I have a male orange tabby who is at least 12 (I got him in September 2013 and he was "1 or 2") who was diagnosed several weeks ago with cancer in/on his lower jaw. We thought it was possibly an abscess from a tooth removal he'd had earlier (he already had one abscess and round of antibiotics a month previous), but when they went to operate on that and clean it out, found that it was pretty clearly cancer. It's primarily on the left side of his mandible, and has made a large lump under his jaw that goes nearly to the other side, but has now also started to grow out to the side, making the side of his mouth look puffy.
A lot of this is somewhat irrelevant because my question is when to take
I let my 4.5 year old pick out fabric for her dress, and just realized (have slowly been accepting) the corner I've painted myself into. One is a a regular stretchy jersey. I haven't worked much with that before, but that should be fine. The other is a not at all stretchy sparkle tulle. The pattern I'm using is a pretty basic long sleeved dress with a twirly skirt and I was thinking that I would do a layer or two of the tulle over that. How hard will that be? How much pain am I in for? Any tips and tricks?
I'm looking for a reputable mechanic specifically for electric cars, and they might need to order parts from the manufacturer. I know of several good mechanics around, but I've only gone to them for gas cars. Does anyone have experience with bringing electric cars in? I'd rather not take it to the dealership if I don't have to.
I know nothing about what I'm doing, but went for fake it till you make it. I think it went okay?
We're taking out this hedge and putting in hazelnut bushes, but realized that this wall has degraded some. Do we need to fix it up? Or is that mostly cosmetic? If we do need to fix it, how do we go about that?
When we bought, we ended up with a perfectly nice house, generally suits us all, except.. for the lack of front porch. Is this a ridiculous idea? Is it the kind of thing I would need a permit to do? Is it something that I could do myself given my pretty basic carpentry knowledge? Or would it be worth the expense of a professional?
For reading pdfs and highlighting, will the libra work? I know the sage has the stylus so you can annotate, but I don't really need that, just the ability to highlight. Is that something the libra can do?
After spring break, I did a reset with policies, and we went over the norms and expectations that they came up with at the beginning of the year. They did some reflection on theirs, and then I asked for feedback on how I was doing on the things they expected of me. I got this gem from someone in my rowdiest class.
