our flickering flame (and a nicer looking version here, if you don't mind instagram)
do you ever look at
the flickering flame of a candle
and think about life?
i do,
and when i do, i think about stars,
how they’re just flickering flames themselves,
how they’re just slowly consuming themselves,
how they’re bound to die out someday,
slowly, surely, over millions of years,
one by one they will perish.
fire by its very nature is a time-bound phenomenon,
surely that’s why metaphors are always about burning.
but what will become of us
when there’s nothing left to burn?
