The Slack desktop app is failing to launch 100% of the time on my work machine when using the version downloaded from https://slack.com/downloads/mac. If I download it from the Apple App Store it works, but I don't want to use the App Store version, and the natively installed version worked just fine until suddenly it didn't despite seemingly nothing having changed.

After moving Slack.app to the /Macintosh HD/Applications directory it seems to go through the normal install process. After it finishes I open Slack.app and proceed past the "unknown file downloaded from the internet" warning,

Location is northern Florida and the house was built in 2001.

We're having our back patio screened in, and the only hose bib in the backyard will end up inside the screened in area unless we move it.

The best option I've come up with is running a pipe on the outside of the house under the window to a new hose bib on the left side of the window. I've got a little DIY plumbing experience, but I've never worked on a hose bib or run pipe outdoors.

I'm looking for suggestions or tips if anyone's got them. Thanks!

Located in the US.

Back in August my wife's boss changed her position to a remote position to support our move out of state. Now that we've moved her boss is telling her he's being pressured to move her position to on-site only, and on top of that the company isn't sure if they're going to continue supporting remote work from the state we now live in.

They've already approved her company paid maternity leave (4 weeks fully paid by employer + 6 weeks at 60% pay via short term disability) which is scheduled to begin in just a few weeks.

She met with HR and was told that she isn't being let go, but the company reserves the right to alter job descriptions/locations as they see fit, and they'

For obvious reasons I'm trying to avoid using a plug in transformer to power my video doorbell. I've searched around but haven't been able to find a clear answer.

I have a conveniently located single pole 120v outlet on the inside of the wall that the doorbell is on. Considering safety and NEC compliance, can I replace that single gang box with a dual gang box (maybe with a dual voltage box?), power the 24v AC transformer (similar to this) with a pigtail off of the load side of the outlet, and mount the transformer

I've got a strange issue with a lighted ceiling fan in my house.

The wiring in this room appears to be very simple to me. There's one power supply run coming in, one branch to the receptacles, another branch to a switch that leads into the black wire in the 14/3 that leads to the ceiling fan box, and another branch to another switch that leads to the red wire in the 14/3 that leads to the ceiling fan box.

My issue is that if either of the two switches are closed, both the black and the red wires running to the ceiling box are getting power. I don't understand how this is possible without something crazy like damaged insulation allowing current to flow between both hot wires or something.

Up until now I've been comfortable filling out my taxes online, but I suspect this years tax bill could be high and I want to make sure it's submitted in the best way possible. I'm just trying to get a better understanding on how to achieve this.

My wife and I file jointly and we have one dependent. Our regular income is just W-2, but we moved from NC (has income tax) to FL (no income tax) about 6 weeks ago.

The reason I expect a big tax bill is because we sold our home between one and two years after we purchased it for a net gain. Based on my understanding this means we'll owe long-term capital gains tax on the profit.

I skimmed through [IRS Publication 523](https://www.irs.gov/publica

The hub in question: Rear wheel Giant Tracker Sport Disc 135x5mm QR from my wife's Liv Lust 3

Photo album

My issue is that I cannot get all 9 ball bearings to fit into the non-drive side of the hub. There's almost enough room for the 9th ball, at a glance with only 8 balls in there it seems like one more will fit, but I can't make it happen.

It's my understanding that they shouldn't be forced and there needs to be a very slight gap between them for them to roll effectively. In my frustration I tried to apply force with just my thumb and I could not get that ball seated into the race.

All 9 balls fit perfectly

Hardware:

  • ThinkPad T480 with the Intel i7-8550U
  • ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2 (40AS)
  • 2x Acer Nitro 2560x1440p 144hz monitors

I can't get both of my monitors to display at 1440p at the same time. I've tried various combinations of HDMI + DisplayPort, and the best I can get is both monitors at 1080p 60hz. If I set one monitor to 1440p, the other monitor drops down to 30hz (remaining at 1080p).

I've tried updating display drivers and the dock drivers but nothing I've tried so far has worked. Any suggestions?

Thanks

My wife and I recently had our first baby, and my wife's mother retired and moved in with us in North Carolina to be closer to us and the little one. After some long discussions, we've now decided it'd be best if we all move back down to Florida to be closer to family.

My mother-in-law owns a fully paid off home in a small town in northern Florida. It sits on a .3 acre corner lot in an established neighborhood full of families and older people who have been in the area for generations. The house itself is way too small for the four of us, and it's also in pretty rough shape. It was built in the '40s and over the years it's had a few unprofessional additions involving no permits. It hasn't
