I'd like to get magisk running on my Caterpillar Cat S42. Since there are no stock ROMs floating around, and no official TWRP builds, I need to extract the boot image somehow - both for magisk, and to have a backup in case things go sideways. Since the S42 is an A/B device, it will not have a separate recovery image, but a boot image that also takes over the recovery functions, if I understand correctly.

However, this feels like a chicken-or-egg problem - I don't dare install a self-build TWRP image over the boot image without the ability to recover in case TWRP won't load system. But I can't extract a stock boot.img without a custom recovery*, and I can't get magisk running for root acces

Trying to install LineageOS to replace the base Fairphone2 Android. For some reason, despite "Zip signature verification" being unchecked, it does the verification and refuses to install the zip.

This is true no matter if I

  • use adb sideload or move the zip to the internal SD and have TWRP find it
  • use any of a range of versions of TWRP (I've tried 3.3.1, 3.3.0, 3.2.1, and 3.1.0, all of them from the TWRP FP2 site)
  • re-download the zip, or use another, older, version (lineage-16.0-... from the last couple of days, and also some versions from march this year I still had lying around, and have successfully installed previously on another FP2 )
  • wipe data, cache and dalvik beforehand - or

I'm having trouble getting a freshly installed LineageOS (both 15.1 and 16.0, with the root supplied by the install instructions) on my Fairphone 2 to connect to my home wifi (WPA2 PSK). The status never reaches any attempt to verify passwords. Has anyone got any suggestions on what I could look into to find out what the problem is? Are wifi problems common with LineageOS?

Connections to unsecured wifi work.

Edit: Correction: Connections to an unsecured wifi from another router work. I just tried turning off the encryption of my router, and the symptoms are the same.

Edit2: changed the channel the router was broadcasting the wifi on, and it worked. I've no idea why this should be a p

I've unthinkingly run into this a couple of times now, and am frustrated by the lack of possibility to arrange a marriage for my son and heir, just because I gave him a county when one was lying around. Is there a mechanism/button I'm overlooking?

I still can arrange marriages for him, but only with household members, and that's a pretty paltry lot.

After checking the marriage button on his character screen, I see that I'm wrong, but he still doesn't appear when I visit other monarchs and check if they have marriageble children, e.g. the King of Sicily has a daughter-heir I can betrothe, but there seems to be no way for me to betrothe her to my son.

I've survived the first two rulers as Byzantium in this game, and feel pretty good about it in general, but my Michael, who had a pretty good handle on his vassals, just left this vale of sorrows and left his 14 year old son in charge. Being the get-go intrigant that I am, I thought I'd get the factions under control before they get too large.

So far, nothing too bad is going on, one is around 40%, another 35% but with similar plotters, and two are basically the faction leader. I've gotten over some revolts with 120% strength, so what could happen, right? I've tried it three times now, but each time, whomever I chose to loose their duchy, half my empire revolts, county wise, but over fields

is there any way to search them for a string? Or at least have them displayed in a readable manner, not the clusterfuck of single-line-messes that aren't even displayed all at once that is the standard menu entry under system properties? That topic seems to be beyond my search ability.

I'd be fine with console commands, if that is what it takes. I just don't know any windows console commands.

Currently listening to the base cs podcast for some light refreshing of memory. In S2E1, Cue the Queues, they talk about arrays being bad for queues for some understandable reasons, like not knowing the size beforehand leading to lots of reallocations, but also mention that jumping from one end to the other, as you have to in a queue, takes a lot of ( big O) time.

This is obviously false in C/C++, where accessing an element of an array/vector is O(1), so I was wondering what kind of data type they are talking about when they say array. Does it mean something else in Ruby? Did I just misunderstand what they are trying to tell me?

My provider is Fonic, which uses the APN pinternet.interkom.net in Germany, no username or password.

I can't get my phone to connect data in any non-German European network, though. The solution seems to be to change the APN, but will I still use my data plan if I set up the APN of, say, movistar in Spain, even though the plan is by Fonic? The Fonic website has so far not disclosed any interesting information on the subject, at least not to me...

I'm thinking about pre-cartridge projectiles, so things like musket, arquebus or handcannon bullets, when people presumably were still experimenting with what made a good projectile. Old cannons, for example, have quite non-standardized cannonball sizes and materials, starting with rocks, and of course iron. Other interesting points would be "special forces munition", perhaps for better armor penetration or whatever, were iron was used in lieu of lead despite being more expensive and harder to cast because of some special use case (kind of like today there is uranium tipped ammunition)

The rather badly written English wikipedia page for bullets seems

###Build Help:

I've got an old Core i7-950 lying around at work, with all the components except for a mainboard, which broke. The use case would be simulations (not high-end ones, obviously). I could get the "cheap" mainboard option e.g. a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 for approx. €150, or an expensive one , like one of these for €380+, which could fit all 48GB of RAM left over.

So my question is: do I get the cheap ma

I've PU'd Spain, whose ports I can use without issue. However, now I've used my troops to conquer enough South American land to make Peru a colonial nation, I can't base any ships there, which sucks, because I've waited to move out my troops to crush eventual seperatist uprisings. The options to give me naval access is greyed out ("You don't need it if you're the overlord of the overlord", roughly) and along the way, other colonies all belong to my rivals, so I can't even buy access there. Oh, and my ships are currently sitting on the coast of Spanish Brazil, and taking attrition, so the supply lines are wrong. Since I'm sitting smack in the middle of Europe (Austria), there's no way my ship
