"fix' f = f (fix' f)" vs. "fix f = let x = f x in x"
groups.google.com/group/stanford-11au-cs240h/...In a recent SO Response the LMAX retail financial trading platform was mentioned, which claims to provide high-throughput and low-latency. As far as I understood it, they implemented in a rather "bare-bone" Java style, avoiding complex frameworks that would waste cpu cycles, and taking into account the underlying architecture to avoid hardware-related bottlenecks in the memory path.
That got me wondering: Could such a system be built with the current GHC-based Haskell ecosystem? Assuming it is possible, how would the effort roughly compare to what was needed
If you want superclass instances for GHC 7.4 provide use-cases now!

factisresearch.blogspot.com/2011/10/yesterday...In Implicit Parameters: Dynamic Scoping with Static Types (2000) a rather useful sounding Haskell language extension is described. It has been supported for some time in GHC now.
Is it recommandable to make use of it, or are there any major down sides or dangers (beyond leaving Haskell2010)? Are there actually any libraries on Hackage which make use of the ImplicitParams extension? How does it compare to using the Reader monad to pass implicit params?
