So basically, I'm trying to synthesise some acetaminophen in my school lab, we have pretty much everything apart from the Pd/C and NaBH4 for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol.
My school are basically out of budget and can't get these chemicals in so I thought an Sn/HCl reduction instead should work, but I can't find any online methods of people actually synthesising the acetaminophen by doing this.
Could anyone offer any guidance on this? Mainly will it actually work? Many thanks!
Hi, just asking for any advice on how to get band 1 on the day?
I've always gotten Band 1 on medify and Medentry, but I've heard these aren't fully accurate.
In official mock D I got around 54/69, and myucat says this is just a few marks off of a band 1, so how can I ensure I get a band 1 on the day?
Hi, just looking for anyone's advice on this!
From what I've seen, people who perform extremely well on the day seem to be very concentrated, and have the ability to stay completely focused, not freaking out over anything.
I've seen this result in people getting 100-200+ from their mock scores, so anyone that could share how they stay focused and don't freak out in the actual exam, it would be very helpful!
p.s. I just got 2240 in Mock D today, and I know everyone claims it is easier but is it realistic I get 2100+ on the day? Thanks!!
I've found out the hard way that mental fatigue exists. My last 3 mocks, I got a 2130, then a 1950, then a 1740 😵😵
I think the only difference between them is the difficulty of the Medentry mocks and also the time I did them during the day, so can anyone reassure me on this? The highest scoring one was at the same time as my exam, while the lowest one was at like 10pm after a long day of school.
I just need someone to confirm that I'm not absolutely rubbish for no reason please 🙏
Hi all,
Can anyone help me out here?
My scores in mocks have been really inconsistent between subtests, like on one of my first mocks I got a 750 in DM, a 650 in QR and like a 550 in VR.
Then on my next mock I got a 650 in VR, a 750 in QR and a 550 in DM.
My most recent mock I'm really glad with, I got like a 2150, but I got an 830!!! in VR (I average around like 650), while I got a 680 in DM and a 620 in QR (which is really weird because QR is usually my best and I get around a 750 in mini-mocks.)
Can anyone help make this make sense? My exam is two weeks today.
Hi!
Just thought I'd post this on here for peoples opinions for a chemistry project for my Scottish Advanced Higher Chemistry, worth 25% of my final grade.
I was interested in doing either the synthesis of paracetamol (or acetaminophen whatever ) or determining the content of acetaminophen in different paracetamol tablets, then comparing them. Which one of these do you think is harder? I don't have access to any sort of high tech spectrophotometry equipment but apparently there are ways around this using UV-vis of some sort.
I am leaning more towards determining the content, as it gets more marks usually, but synthesis sounds fun and I would be able to get high marks also, but
Any predictions for edinburgh cut off for Scottish applicants this year? I know their cut off for Scots is around average but do you think this will change due to the different scoring?
The Jessica Hyde theme that plays a bunch of times like her main theme I can't find it anywhere. Please does anyone know the name?
