There's plenty of wargamers around Madison, especially 40k, but not a lot for open source wargaming. That is, games with the full rules freely available and 3d printed models are not only allowed, but encouraged. So I started a Discord to organize events and to help each other get models printed.

I'm particularly interested in NetEpic, the fan-produced rules based on the old 40k Epic. Other games are Little Wars (an old wargame by HG Wells that's in the public domain), If Worlds Collide (a skirmish miniatures game), or Full Thrust (a space ship fleet battle game).

There are channels for non-open wargames, but the focus will always be on the open games.

The most common alphabet we've seen in Star Wars is Aurebesh. There are no "X" shapes in it. The "Vev" character is shaped like a "Y", and "Osk" and "Xesh" look something like an A-Wing. "Aurek" has a "K" shape. Other starfighters with this naming convention, like the B and T-Wing, don't have any clear candidates.

There are a few lesser known alphabets. Domabesh is squared off and doesn't fit any starfighters very well. Dishabesh has an "A" character that looks like a "K".

I have an old Fanatec GT3RSv2 wheel strapped into a TrakRacer TR80 with Clubsport pedals. I'd like to swap out the pedals, but I'm wondering if there's much advantage to going to the more modern direct drive wheels. I mostly play iRacing.

I'm happy with the power of the force feedback on the GT3 wheel. Plenty enough that it can be a real workout at its max settings, and I usually turn it down. Having a fancy removable wheel would be nice--makes it easier to get in and out of the cockpit with the wheel sitting close--but I don't think I want to drop $1000+ just for that.

Given that I don't see a need for more power, is there any advantage to the upgrade beyond detachable wheels and still ge
