3 days post-surgery and things are honestly going pretty well, no horror stories here. Mild discomfort but nothing crazy except the 20 minutes after my toddler kicked my nads in her sleep.

Was ready for "your kids will become guided missiles locked onto attacking your junk" part of things (not ready enough, apparently).

Had good expectations for pain and swelling and so far have been able to take it easy enough to the point that I may have been over prepared.

But this morning I saw how things looked in the mirror, and like, bruising I was ready for, but the swelling...

...I laughed for like ten straight minutes. Constant ice packs and soreness means that a certain cylinder is as small as

Just got a 22 Leaf SV, battery health seems pretty great based on the driving/charging I've done over the past week. Had a telework day at the same time as my wife so figured I'd take it in for the software update for the battery recall.

"Oh yeah we've done around 200 of these and only 2 of them haven't worked, so it's literally a 1% chance that you have an issue!"

7 hours later he gave me a call "Well uh, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but...you're car number 3. We tried several times but after about an hour it would just stop updating and tell us it failed."

So I guess it's a 1.5% chance now, and I get to wait until Monday to see what happens when the dealer contacts the regional t

Got a used 2017 Niro five years ago almost to the day. Hands down the best car I've ever had, drove well, excellent mpg, only maintenance it ever needed was the basics plus that oil pressure sensor switch issue.

Cue the old lady cutting through parking spaces. Kisses my front corner panel with both of us going under 15 mph. Some scratches and traded paint, nothing crazy. Car still drove just fine! But I have two $500 carseats, and they're only rated for a single "impact" - manufacturer confirmed that they did consider the situation an "impact" and would replace for free, just send the police report or insurance claim.

No police report, so I had to open a claim. Dashcam meant they had close

When the Audiobooks Just Hit Different

SpoilerBook 7: Inevitable Ruin

I know there's a ton of discussion about listening versus reading this series, but there are some moments in the audiobooks that are just done so incredibly well that it really show elevate the experience.

My favorite of these moments in Book 7 is >!during the showdown at the Nest, when Gus has Mongo on the ropes and Carlnis waylaid by the gale tower, Rend's arrival is announced by the at-this-point-well-established, ever-deepening sinister Rend giggle. There's just so much attached to that sound byte, how it's deeper than ever, how it somehow exudes confidence?!?!, that just screams "the day is saved" so much more than if Jeff had just read "A terrible, deep giggling filled the night" wi

Look, we live in MoCo. We understand Maryland traffic, DC traffic, and the insanity that occurs out on those streets. But let me tell you, I actually submitted a service ticket to MDOT's Division of Traffic Engineering and Operations Transportation Management Center (TMC) and the experience was way better than expected.

There's a traffic light on the way to my kid's daycare that uses those camera sensors to trigger the left turn arrow - there is no "left turn on flashing red after stop" at this light, just a green arrow or nothing. In the morning rush, there's not really a chance to turn left without that arrow anyway. However, the sensor is pretty finicky - once every few weeks, I have to

I laughed every time I heard that with my first kid, just had the second and turns out it actually works?

I'm stunned, dads.

And now I must do everything in my power to keep on this.

Hey so every so often I remember the pretty vinyl presses of the soundtrack the Mondo makes, but they sell out super quick and then all that's available are $300 eBay scalpers.

Well just this afternoon (September 3rd, 2024) I was actually able to pre-order the 2024 pressing in the color "harvest festival" for $40 (including shipping). So if anyone is interested in the vinyl and doesn't want to get fleeced by scalpers, this is your chance!

Just saw on LinkedIn as of 2 hours ago, someone made a complaint about the testing window issues and the complete lack of communication and thankfully they have Lawrence Sloan in their network, he responded and said he'd get in touch with BGC, then updated and said BGC's CEO would be making a statement.

Hopefully this happens soon. I'm surprised it seems like Lawrence only learned of the issue today (or maybe just how bad it really has been). For the CIH hopefuls out there (and in this group), I hope you get answers real soon.

Twice as Crazy

Advice Request

So dads, I've got a 2 year old boy at home, and we recently learned that not only is he going to be a big brother, but come September he's going to have a little sister!

Any tips for preparing him for getting a sibling? He's currently in the phase where he doesn't quite understand what's going on and tends to get a bit upset if we tell him he's going to have a baby sister. Who's been through this, and is there anything you did that you think really helped your kid be happy about kid number 2?
