Just wanted to thank you all for the posts on here, it was really helpful when I wasn't sure what to expect from surgery! My lipoma was removed from the back of my neck/shoulders, at the top of the spine. It turned out to be bigger than expected and so the wound is maybe 7cm. Anaesthetic starting to wear off but I'm dosed up with co-codamol.
I was more nervous about the recovery than the actual surgery if I'm honest. So far pain has been minimal but I'm a bit afraid to move my head, as (TMI)>! the cut was horizontal and I'm scared of popping stitches if I look down or stretch the skin in any way.!< And I can't figure out how I'm going to sleep - does anyone know if I can sleep on the dressi
Well, I finally figured out what killed my cherry tree last year. It's now got big honey-coloured mushrooms growing out of it.
Problem is, I used a load of the soil from beneath the cherry tree to fill a big pot for my potted apple. Should I emotionally prepare for my apple tree to succumb eventually too?
I'm also moving house soon and was hoping to dig up and bring a bunch of my plants, many of which happen to be beneath said dead tree. Is this a terrible idea? Has anyone any advice on best practice to not bring honey fungus to my new garden?
We've been renovating an old house and found a pretty ancient-looking bottle of Roundup, about three-quarters full. I'd like to get rid of it (don't use herbicides much myself) but knowing that the stuff is pretty toxic I'm not sure what to do with it. The local waste centre doesn't seem to have an option. Pouring it down the drain seems a bad idea, and using it on the garden is likely to kill bees/other insects/plants I want to keep.
I could in theory pour it over the driveway which is constantly plagued with weeds, but is that damaging to local wildlife? Is there anything else I could do with it?
How are we feeling about the public Oath of Allegiance to the King on Monday? My personal instinct is no way, I'm extremely bothered by the oath of allegiance to the flag that the US does and it feels obviously wrong to me to swear allegiance to anyone or anything but God. I'm kind of surprised at Welby and the bishops for going along with the idea.
Would love to hear other perspectives though! I'm not really a monarchist or a republican, more of a fascinated history nerd, so I will be watching the coronation with much interest, but this oath of allegiance thing has brought out my nonconformist church upbringing, that's for sure.
Hi! I recently found out I have low iron levels (I wasn't given the numbers so I can't say if it counts as anaemia or not, unfortunately). My GP (I'm in the UK) prescribed 210mg ferrous fumarate 3 times a day, which I have to take for 4 months. I've been taking it for about 2 weeks.
I'd really like to know what to expect from this treatment. I've been feeling pretty awful this year (lethargic, low mood, mental health struggles) and it seemed like last week my mood suddenly lifted and I was feeling a little better. But I missed a few doses over a very busy weekend and crashed - bad mental health and insomnia suddenly struck. Is it likely that the iron supplements are working that much alread
I'm working through some self-help resources for OCD as mine is becoming genuinely life-limiting these days. I can't afford private therapy yet and getting therapy through the NHS is quite a mission (I love the NHS but well-funded it is not). So until I can get help I'm doing what I can.
Anyway, today I took the plunge and started doing imaginal exposures as IRL exposures are currently too much for me to resist compulsions. I wrote out my little script (which was quite anxiety-provoking) and was surprised to find that despite writing out my primary fears, each time I read it I experienced less and less anxiety. I had to tweak it after I realised that I'd actually written some comp
The classic: I've given myself OCD about recovering from OCD. It's all a bit tangled up and I'd appreciate some advice.
I've been going through the OCD Workbook and The Happiness Trap, it's been really helpful and I started trying to do exposures just through what comes up in my everyday life (don't have time atm for structured work on it). I think the problem is that I'm currently doing the exposures while anxious and monitoring everything for danger. So for example the other day I listened to a podcast I usually enjoy but sometimes avoid because it occasionally carries a risk of triggering phrases coming up. I was listening on high alert but making myself do it because I know I need to do
