There was a recent TIL thread about how much pasta Barilla makes, and it was filled with Italians saying "Oh Barilla sucks, it's considered bad pasta in Italy and people only buy it because it's cheap". Meanwhile in Japan I find Barilla is usually the most expensive brand in supermarkets because "It's the most popular brand in Italy!"

So I'm curious what pasta the Italians living here buy, and if any of the Japanese brands are what you'd consider good.

So I've searched and most discussions of snapd seem to become just a "snapd bad" circlejerk - that's not what I want.

What is snapd actually doing when it uses up most of my CPU cycles? It's not just the "first time startup is slow" thing, it just randomly slows my desktop system to a crawl. It seems to take very little memory, compared to other CPU hogging programs.

I know it's a container format that puts the dependencies in one place, but beyond that there doesn't seem to be much technical discussion about it. Is anyone here a coder who has looked at the source code? What's causing the random CPU hogging?

Hi, not sure this is the right sub as it doesn't involve a hardware failure, but a recent Firefox update seems to have removed my extensions, including TabSessionManager and the sessions I had saved manually. It may have been a few days later that I noticed anything had gone wrong, but when I did I imaged the entire drive (220gb) to a bigger one and trying data recovery on the imagein read-only as well as on the original drive.

Windows 10, NTFS drive, Firefox 116 now but extension was under previous version 115.

Am using a Lubuntu linux box to do data recovery with ntfsundelete on the drive image file (.img taken with dd) in read-only mode, but have not found anything that looks like the s

Sorry if this isn't the right sub but this seems kind of related. I'm trying to remember the name of a particular politician who was named in an old reddit thread I can no longer find, and googling the details doesn't find him either. He was:

A male US politician who was once in the army, but was accused of desertion during that time, after not reporting back to his unit when he came back to the US from Iraq on leave. Allegedly he got an email from his unit telling him he didn't need to come back, so he got a job at a fast food restaurant until the army found him and had him court-martialed. He was convicted.

Anyone know who this is?

I may soon be getting some software in Win10 which is keyed to my computer. Not sure how it IDs my computer, but is it possible for me to use Proxmox to set up a VM or container, and have it spoof the serial numbers for my CPU, mobo, RAM, GPU, network MAC so that even the Windows OS won't know the real details and I could change the underlying hardware without it knowing?

I had been planning to build a system with ECC ram using Kingston KSM26ED8/16ME, which is on Asrock's approved vendor list for their B550 mobos, but I put it off for a year and now that ram is apparently end of lifed, and expensive when I can find it. However the similar-sounding Kingston KSM26ED8/16HD is still easily available, I just want to know if it's likely possible to swap it in for the /16ME and have it supported with ECC. Both are 16gb 1.2v CL19 ECC.

Even if you don't have experience with these two models, can you guys tell me your experiences with swapping close-sounding RAM for another? Do they tend to be supported by mobos even when not on the approved list?

A lot of the speculation seems to be about a more powerful Switch, and while that's probably coming inevitably, I am hoping for in addition to that a portable system that's closer in size to a 3ds in size, smaller than the 3ds xl and way smaller than Switch lite. It would be great if it was backwards compatible with Switch and 3ds games as well, though the latter might be too much of a stretch.

It just seems crazy to me that Nintendo is abandoning the portables market entirely while it was ahead, with no direct upgrade path from 3ds. I know most adults play with their smartphones, but there are lots of kids around still and there is a market for a game machine that will fit in a pocket, wh

The google results I get are mostly for the movie based on that story, is there any actual research on this? I get one JSTOR page but I don't have access, and I don't see anything other than pop culture stuff otherwise. The wiki page says there was one letter from the city office of Milan that confirms the marriage, nothing else? Was there any DNA testing done on their alleged son?

Just seems pretty crazy to me that a major historical figure from the 1940s can have a first marriage that produced a child completely covered up.
