I see a lot more rules hacks than I do adventure scenarios written for Cthulhu Dark. And I've yet to see anything written for Cosmic Dark yet.

Have you written something? Do you have something in the pipeline? We should talk about it!

I ran my first session of MB at the weekend and it went very well. Multiple avenues of non-Myth story have been created, but I am seeking advice about one.

My "starting mission" for the Company was to take news to the Seat of Power of the death of a prominent individual (clear and actionable) and secondly that the Ghoul Knight's seer has suggested he seek out the Dying Seer.

It is likely that the Ghoul Knight will arrive at the Dying Seer's sanctum next session, so as well as the usual stuff there will be specific conversation about their relationship with death. So, what should it be?

If it's any help, the Ghoul Knight owes a favour to the Goblin (Omen 5), so the Goblin could step in at

I have a question about the attempts to reduce Changed score. Quoting the rules summary from p164:

To do this, say what you are doing to remove the change. For example, you might try surgery, drugs or the Memory Anaesthetic in the Medical Officer’s standard supplies.

And also:

You can’t reduce Changed by simply healing a wound or getting medical attention.

I had initially assumed that Changed score could be reduced by any appropriate external action, ie getting another player to perform surgery, but this seems to suggest that getting medical attention is insufficient. Instead I'm left with the impression that it has to be done by the character who is rolling to lower their score. The d

I want to make my own scenario, so there's a couple extra things needed:

  • specialisms
  • psych assessment questions

Does anyone have advice on their construction? Some of the Psych Assessment questions in the original adventures hit really hard. I think I'm trying to be "too smart" and need to trim them a bit.

I was thinking about cryopods. I've always run them as in Alien, dry and reasonably comfortable. You climb in with your company-branded underpants and close your eyes. You look like you're in quiet repose, you look like Sigourney Weaver, like a million dollars.

I think I might run cryopods like the pods from The Matrix. You're submerged in gloop, you climb out like a newborn foal, you probably have to pull a feeding tube out of your nose. No wonder you need a stimpak to not feel absolute shit. You're not springing into action after that.

What are your interpretations of the elements which are mostly unexamined? What could you make weird if you wanted to?

I got the hardback in the post. I've read a couple of the mysteries and I'm already thinking about some of the slower Mothership adventures I have that would benefit from the action being de-emphasised in favour of the slower weirdness that Cosmic Dark is pushing.

Who else has run it yet? Or have plans in the new year?

Do possessive pronouns "stack"?

I wanted to send a message "I have your book" to my wife, because I'd just picked up a book she had reserved from the library.

Okay, "I have X" is "tha X agam" and "your X" is "an X agad" so does that make this "tha an leabhar agad agam"?? That seems intuitively a bit mad but as a beginner I don't have much intuition!

What am I missing here??

The one-shots I've read are typically incursions into infested places — aliens on asteroids, submarines, pre-fab colonies and derelict ships. I'd like to see something where players are moving somewhere and can interact with the ship mechanics: combat, chases etc. Is there anything like that, maybe modelled on an old Traveller adventure with space pirates or something?

I'm thinking of running a one-shot for all marines, maybe with Ultimate Badasses to give everyone that adrenaline boost and survivability.

My current notion is just "the scientists, what did they do?! Meddling with things beyond their ken and now there's a rift to the hell-worlds splitting opening our reality in the middle of this (moon colony/space station/underground laboratory)" and a general mission to step through the rift to get the maguffin to close the portal.

Is there anything pre-written that fits this idea? Or something that can be used partially? Either Mothership or other systems that I can adapt? It feels like a Stay Frosty/Slipgate Chokepoint situation but they're a good bit

When you roll to investigate, there is a sliding scale of outcomes, from "just enough" to "more than you wanted". As I'm writing an adventure right now, I realise that this might be hard to do with handouts. Initially I thought, okay maybe the focus is not on handouts — but of course, the scenarios in the hardback all contain handouts!

I think I might make some handouts but only provide them on a 4+ and summarise the letter/journal/newspaper article for lesser results. (My handouts will not be very elaborate, so I don't feel sad about not getting to use them.)

A friend suggested that on a low roll I could provide the handout but immediately hit them with a distraction so they don't have th

So Duolingo just asked me to fill in the blanks here: "pretty eyes" -> "___ breagha". I put in sùilean which it accepted as correct.

My vague understanding of plurals is that "two things" doesn't use regular plural so is that actually "three or more pretty eyes"? Is that what I'm saying when I say you've got pretty eyes?

Yours, with my third eye opening...

Hello! I want to make a notebook with the corners snipped off at 45 degree angle (not a huge cut, maybe 1.5cm each side). How should I manage the turn-ins? Is there some rule relating to the angle of the side and the size of the angle that you cut from the covering to allow good folding? (I hope this explanation makes sense. I wish I could draw a diagram.)

eg, for a regular 270 degree corner, you cut 180 (straight) degree away from the covering material. I feel like as the size of the corner recedes from 270 then the angle of cut would get smaller too.

Is there any rules for this? I will do some experiments with folding scrap paper but if there's good formulas that would be even better.

I see a lot of beautiful maps posted here. And there are lots of approaches to maps — player mapping, fog of war, just laying the whole thing down in one go. I've not seen anyone mention dividing up the map into segments and handing parts out. At first blush the idea appeals to me:

  • Agrod the Barbarian got this map of the Caves of Doom from someone in a tavern who swore he would never go back. (The map is the first two caverns, until the giant spider's web became impenetrable. Who knows how much farther it goes.)
  • Sparion the Wizard found this old schematic of the Keep of Tartloss when it was being upgraded a generation ago. Rumour has it that they dug a new basement and uncovered somethi

What would you do/not do if you had to introduce and play the system in one evening?

  • what kind of player aids would you need?
  • how much setting would you make in advance, or how much at the table?
  • how much adventure would you make in advance, or how much improvised?
  • would you GM it or run it co-operatively?
  • would your answers change depending on player count?

I run games occasionally at the local game shop's RPG Night and knowledge, experience, player count can be very varied:

  • anywhere between 2 and 5 other players
  • people who have seen me post on the shop discord server, and have signed up for this game
  • people who have walk into the shop on the day, and will get allocated a
