I've been experimenting with using different types of tea to make kombucha, in small jars, fermenting in parallel. I got somewhat unusual fermentation using ripe puerh tea - my guess is that ripe tea is itself a product of fermentation and might contain something which affects SCOBY.

Unusual in following ways: fermenting a lot slower than other batches, odd gooey "pellicle" and some yeast colonies in the liquid itself. Nevertheless, it was quite OK in terms of taste, and quite interesting as it didn't develop acidity as fast as other batches. So I started using it as a starter for new batches, etc.

Anyhow, at some point I started to get results which taste more similar to other fermented d

When I leave kombucha fermenting for too long it becomes very acidic. I understand that.

When I start a new batch I dilute starter with a new tea, so it's much less acidic. But, surprisingly, some burning aftertaste remains - e.g. it's not very acidic on the tongue, but after you swallow you feel it in the back throat.

Does anybody know what that might be, chemically? I'd suspect ethanol, but apparently it's supposed to be converted to vinegar, normally. So, unlikely.

And I suspect it's kinda normal, just not as noticeable in a sour, fizzy kombucha.

I had a rather chaotic process with making kombucha - trying different teas, leaving it fermenting for way too long. Now I'm struggling to make something which is nice to drink.

Burn - it seems like a rather unpleasant burning aftertaste is distinct from acidity. E.g. if I dilute it to a point when it's not very acidic 'burn' might remain. But it is somewhat masked by acidity and fizziness. Any idea what that might be? I don't think it's alcohol as it supposed to be converted to acid.

Off-smell - some kombucha got a rather unpleasant 'stale water' smell in additional to normal one. I initially attributed it to bad filtration (e.g. some plant material got into the liquid), but as

I was searching for "damage efficiency" in BAR and randomly found a paper released just two weeks ago: https://arxiv.org/html/2606.18950v2

Basically some Korean researchers from Seoul National University are trying to use BAR to evaluate "VLM" AIs like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc.

And, unsurprisingly, AIs don't do well in complex games.

Paper also claims BAR has advantages over SC2 as it's more complex, open source, etc.

I recently got a high-profile Nuphy Node75 with tactile switches, and it's pretty much perfect except it's too high above table surface. I want to have my wrists on the table (I know it's not right, but...) and I don't want a wrist rest.

Otherwise I had Air75 v1 for several years, but typing on it just doesn't feel right, like it's somehow not precise. Not sure if it's about switches, keycaps or something else, but I've seen other posts mentioning this kind of a problem.

I'm not sure what to do now - get a new low-profile keyboard and hope it's better, or search for something specific.

I don't really follow F1/F2 pattern but just get out some into a jug and re-top the rest with tea.

That worked for me for some time, but now it doesn't - kombucha I have is often too sour for my taste. And I'm not really sure why. Also I'd like it to be a bit sour but minimize vinegar "burn".

Are there any tips for reducing sourness?

I remember 5 years ago I could buy pretty decent DHP from shops which just resell packaged tea from China.

But now even specialized tea shops which understand specific cultivars, villages, etc, sell rock oolong which is below the mediocre grade (in my opinion). E.g. many of them are heavily roasted, and barely have any aroma beyond the roast smell.

I still have few pieces of a DHP brick I bought 5 years ago (which was quite inexpensive, heavily compressed leafs), and it's mind-blowing comparing to the stuff which 'boutique' tea shops sell now. WTH.

I tried going after more specific cultivars like Rou Gui, still no luck.

I'm a kind of a person who hopes to get a good out-of-box experience which requires no configuration. And GNOME kind of gives that experience, covering all the basics.

But I've been increasingly frustrated with GNOME... And as they went Wayland-only it become practically unusable for me (Wayland causes some random bouts of slowness and freezes on my system, especially with Chrome, not sure if it's connected to Intel Xe graphics or something else).

So I started trying other DEs, including Xfce. OMG. It needed some configuration to get to look reasonable on 4k screen, but I got it in 15 minutes. And it's not just "better". I feel like my hands were tied but now I can use my hands again :D

I'm trying to follow instructions here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/networking

netsh interface portproxy add ...

It goes through, all OK, except it doesn't work. I get connrefuse both locally and on the network. Accessing WSL IP from Windows works, by itself. It is almost like portproxy doesn't do anything.

Setting networkingMode to mirrored also does not help. I added firewall rule and disabled firewall in three different ways. Nothing helps.

Does it work for anyone? Is my Windows particularly fucked up or something?

Hi

I'm (slowly) working on design of Universal Code Representation IR, aiming to represent code more universally than it is done now. Meaning, roughly, that various languages spanning different paradigms can be be compiled to UCR IR, which can then be compiled into various targets.

The core idea is to build everything out of very constructions. An expression can be

  1. binding block, like let ... in ... in Haskell (or LET* in Lisp)
  2. lambda abstraction
  3. operator application (where operator might be a function, or something else).

An the rest of the language is built from these expressions:

  1. Imports (and name resolution) are expressions
  2. Type definitions are expressions
  3. Modul

I want to:

  1. export everything to JSON
  2. process it via external script to "deduplicate" my tabs, group, classify, etc.
  3. replace what I have in tabXpert with version I get from the script

But it seems like JSON format is export-only, no way to import JSON?

Is there 3rd party format support which would be suitable for this?
