How does an off campus 5-1 thesis work for Dualites?

For people who have secured an SI and planning to do an off campus thesis for 5-1, how does it go with the Placement cycle. Especially when the person has not got the ppo or the company reveals it very late (like what happened in most cases for the ongoing semester).

Isn't it a bit risky- to commit on a joining date, specially if one is unable to get an early offer, since most of the firms have their OA/ Interview/ both in person ?

I'm currently in the pre-final year of my undergrad, CS Majors. I wanted to explore cybersecurity as a niche, to possibly do my final year thesis in it ... and I was thinking to pursue it via some MOOCs.

Can someone who has some academic background/ knows about how things work there, help me with it. I found some good reviews about this MOOC: https://cybersecuritybase.mooc.fi/. How would doing this be?

To give some context, I've secured a summer intern at Oracle, and I have solved a decent no of LeetCode/CodeForces stuff and I have a good command plus some projects on CS fundamentals like OOP/Database/OS, yet to cover Networks at univ though.

Why is it so, that nearly no Day 0 SI companies come for Placements, and only some select Day 1 companies come.

Ofcourse not considering the PPOs.

Doesn't this practically make SI the only way to get into "top" tech/Quant firms, in particular. With PS 2 or Placements not matching the intensity.

( Talking wrt Pilani campus, idk if similar concepts exist at Goa and Hyd)
