I've got three Dell PowerEdge R815 hosts running 5.1.0 currently with a VCSA 5.5. Is the general consensus to go right up to 6.0 or hold back and use 5.5? Is ok to make a direct jump up to 6.0 from 5.1.0?
Thanks!

I SWEAR I had a promo CD or something years ago that had a studio version of the cover of The Doors' Light My Fire, but all I can find is a live performance (and very fast) version of it; the one I am looking for is a lot slower... Anyone know what I am talking about?
r/bash said to try python for this instead...

Or should I be going about this in a completely different way?
Here is the script, sorry if this is painful for anyone...
#!/usr/bin/env bash
ask() {
echo -n "Configuration is not optimal. Type 'REMEDIATE' or 'SKIPITEM': "
read rs
case "$rs" in
"REMEDIATE")
echo "You have chosen to remediate this item. Running the following command:"
echo ""
declare -f remediate
sleep 2
remediate
echo "Here is the result:"
echo ""
So I wrote this script today to take an ad-blocking hosts file and turn it into a named zone file. It works fairly well, but I am looking for constructive criticism, mainly about the text manipulation I have going on:
#!/bin/bash
wget http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.txt -O /home/user/hosts.txt
if [ -e "/home/user/adhosts.conf" ]
then
mv /home/user/adhosts.conf /home/user/adhosts.conf.bak
fi
for i in $( grep 0.0.0.0 /home/user/hosts.txt | cut -d' ' -f2 | tr -d '\015' | grep -v 0.0.0.0 ); do echo "zone \"$i\" IN { type master; file \"master/adblock\"; };" >> /home/user/named.conf.adblock; done
Basically, the source hosts.txt file is pretty much
I have some Dell R815 servers that I was thinking about adding physical CPUs to, but that means I have to add vSphere Enterprise licenses. And the quote I got was insane... So I've started wondering if anyone successfully switched to [the now free, minus support] XenServer? Pros/Cons? Thanks!
Just kicking around some ideas here at our K-12 school district where we have about 4500 Windows XP / 7 fat clients. I know Virtual Desktops are the latest hotness, but has anyone chosen to run MS Terminal Services on Server 2012 instead? If so, good idea/bad idea? Does the licensing end up cheaper than VD?

Has anyone here had a problem where all email comes in from any old random SMTP server on the Internet except from MS-hosted stuff like Office365 and Exchange Online? Messages sent from those services are only randomly getting to our spam filter. We can send TO them all day long, no problem.
As a test, we had an O365 user send us a message, and it failed to come in. He sent another one a few minutes after that, and it came right through. I just have no idea where to go from here...
Thanks for any help!
I once read someone's comment that the company they work for required them to list out each command they were going to run... Does that actually work out in the end? I take it you would need an exact copy of production running in a lab? Can anyone elaborate on this process?
I know basically nothing about setting up OTP... I've seen people running around with RSA tokens, and I'd like to set up something similar here. Can anyone explain the process in as much gory detail as possible? We run eDirectory, but I would take an AD explanation as well...
I plan on eventually getting my CCNP, but I'm wondering if it would make any sort of sense to just study for CCNP from the start instead of CCNA, and THEN CCNP... Is there anything in the CCNA that ISN'T covered by studying for CCNP? I imagine if one could pass both ROUTE and SWITCH tests for CCNP, the CCNA should be a breeze?
We have a ton of random "utility" servers running either Windows XP, Windows 2003, or Windows 2008, all standalone in Workgroup mode. One is the AV console, one is an HVAC server, etc.
For those of you in the same boat, did you setup an AD tree and join all these servers to it? Are they in your production tree? A separate tree? Just leave it alone?
Thanks for any suggestions!
Are there any better sites than http://www.internetpulse.net/ for a visual on where current problems are? Could we put this and others like it on the sidebar?
