Kort over mij: Master student wiskunde bij de UvA, ga graag boulderen, hardlopen of buiten wandelen. Ik ben onlangs gestart met zwemmen voor de city swim. Verder ben ik altijd wel iets aan het lezen en schrijf onregelmatig korte verhalen. Leeftijd, gender en achtergrond maken niet echt uit;

Recently used my dip pen again for a long writing session and I really love the feel of it. I use a Tachikawa no 3 G-pen type nib and was wondering if there’s any fountain pen that writes similarly. I don’t need a flex pen. I’m more focused on that mix of feedback and stiffness, without scratchiness.

Initially posed this on r/studyabroad but realise this is a better place for it and added more context and concretely asking for advice.

I finished my bachelor's in mathematics in the Netherlands (I'm dutch and studied in my hometown, I did spend the entire degree living on my own because I wanted to take that step to grow and also living at home wasn't sustainable for me) this summer. I spent a year preparing to move abroad to do a masters in mathematics in Hannover. Initially I had wanted to go to France but that didn't work out because I couldn't do the language exam in time and my other option in Germany was Bonn but I got in touch with some Master students there and I didn't g

I finished my bachelor's in mathematics in the Netherlands (I'm dutch) this summer. I spent a year preparing to move abroad to do a masters in mathematics in Hannover. I was there for a week, i felt miserable. I'm in a Studentwohnheim, the room has horrible isolation/constantly noisy and living with 8 other people (on my floor, 50 total in the building) is just really not for me. I'm on the university waiting list, but it'll take a few more months.

During the time preparing I also got a study grant and ended up facing a month-long battle with bureaucracy to get the funding I was promised by the government. Because of all that insecurity I had also enrolled at another university in the Nethe

Looking for a book to get me through the coming weeks and perhaps give a bit of comfort (in the sense that you feel seen/recognised). My plan to study abroad got blasted (officially it's not cancelled, but it went from 'I'm moving abroad in three days' to 'I have a 1% chance of moving abroad at all', am currently caught up in an administrative battle which may end up being a public scandal, had a lot of unexpected expenses, and will be moving back in with emotionally abusive parents. I'm already working on what I'll do to get out of this particular bad situation and that alleviates some grievances, but would nonetheless also prefer a book at my side.

I primarily read literary fiction and n

I'm looking into replacing my current pocket notebook (Leuchtturm1917 a6) with a filofax so I can use a calendar + notes insert. I was wondering whether a filofax pocket is actually comfortable to carry in the pockets of your trousers. I'm a bit concerned about the rings and (in)flexibility of the leather.

I was decluttering and discovered I still have a lot of loose leaf paper. I did a pen test and it's horrible paper ie the ink bleeds and feathers with all the pens and inks I currently use. I basically only write with fountain pen and use ballpoints only for necessary forms. What can I do with all this loose leaf? Throwing it out feels like a waste, but I don't have a use for it.

I'm looking for an example of the following: Let X be a locally compact space, give an example of an open subspace of X that is not locally compact.

Locally compact is defined as: X is called locally compact if every x in X has a compact neighbourhood.

I thought of Q as a subspace of R with the standard topology, but Q is neither open nor closed. I also thought of a set with the discrete topology, but any open subspace has a compact neighbourhood.

I recently inked up my pen with asa-gao and when I started writing it turned out a lot darker than usual. I think it's because I didn't clean out my pen 100%. Regardless, I have now fallen in love with this ink and was wondering if anyone can point me to a blue-black that looks something like it. I don't exactly remember what ink I had in it before and I don\t really want to try and mix my inks to find out.

Thanks!

I've always been an 'overachiever', in part because I felt I needed to do more to prove my worth and in part because I feel as though others always encouraged it. In line with that trend I started two bachelor degrees last year, mathematics and philosophy. I was doing math because I love it and have wanted to pursue a career in it for some years already, and philosophy just because I was interested in it.

I finished my first year and while I did relatively well, I wasn't happy. I felt very fragmented and like I was never spending my time in an intentional way, I wasn't doing it for myself, I was just doing it for the sake of doing a lot of classes, seeming impressive. After a long talk wit
