Hello all, I am new to Linux, I have been using Mint Cinnabon for over 6 months now. I say I am new because I am a “light” user. I have a personal computer that had Windows 10 so you can figure out the rest.

I like the OS, it works well for my basic needs (internet browsing, low res gaming, office).

One question I have: I always install all the updates available, regardless of what it is (kernel, softwares, new Mint version, etc.). This is a habit I had from windows. From reading comments here, it seems that I shouldn’t be always updating my kernel.

When is it worth updating the kernel?
Is there other things I should be careful before updating?

Hello all, I just want to hear your thoughts on the best strategy for this approach.

The company that I work for offers 5% top up contributions to the RRSP if I do the same. The options are all funds with Manulife.

That’s great however the funds have approximately 1.75%IMF so it’s a big hit over time. I know wealthsimple covers transfer fees for anything above $25K. So I was planning to transfer over to my RRSP every time I accumulate that figure.

The question is: should I leave the money on something more aggressive, to match my WS RRSP? or should I leave the money in something more conservative? So I don’t take risks since this should not stay there for a long period of time.

Hello folks! I’m vegan, which already limits my purchasing options. Last grocery run I had to get creative to buy Canadian and, at minimum, avoid US items. Any good list of Canadian brands that are also vegan?

I didn’t feel like going out to vote this winter, my riding projection is pretty set. I just wanted to be done with it and decided to register to vote by mail.

I have to say the whole thing was pretty painless, the voting kit arrived on the mail a few days after registering. The instructions are pretty clear. The envelope is already stamped so I had to do was put it on the mail box. Done!

So yeah, if going out to vote is going to be a hassle for you, do it by mail. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully. Your envelope must arrive at your voting center by Election Day, put it back at least a week in advance (maybe more days) to allow enough time to Canada post.

Hi folks, Cycle Toronto (I'm not involved, just spreading the word) is running this petition against the Bill 212 to remove bike lane (among other controversial things). if you could spare a moment to add your name it would be highly appreciated.

I Love Bike Lanes - Cycle Toronto

From the website:

We’ve made so much progress. But it could all be undone, all at once.

*Reports have come out that the Ontario government plans to bring forward legislation that would block the installation of bike lanes where motor vehicle lanes would have to be reduced. These changes would severely limit the ability of Toronto and municipalities across the provi

Hey folks, a friend of mine is coming to Toronto to get a US visa at the US embassy. Personally I never been there but apparently there are rules that you can’t bring your cellphone inside.

My friend will need the cellphone to Uber there and back. Has anyone been there before and how was the experience? Are these rules really strict?

Cheers
