Being put on hold?

🎓 UNI / UCAS

Why do some unis, e.g. Bristol, put 4A* applicants immediately on hold for one course, but then instantly ake offers for another, especially when the courses are similar? For example, I've seen quite a few different Engineering offers from Bristol, including Mechanical and Aerospace, but none for Design Engineering. Why is this the case, considering that they're such similar courses? Does it also depend on whether you've picked, say, a Master's degree with a year in placement, over a Bachelor's degree?

As the title says - any fellow Cambridge Design applicants? I've only seen one or two on TSR...

How are we feeling? (If 'we' exist)... My Cambridge Application deadline day today! Portfolios looking crisp? Ready to hear if you've got an interview in early November? I want to hear from you! I need to know if I'm not going mad...

Hi to any readers,

I'm 17 and I received a series of psychiatric diagnoses earlier this year, most relevantly consisting of ADHD (combined type) and OCD. I started, as most do, on 30mg of Elvanse, and it was very easy to notice a change since I was midway through my first year of sixth form college at that time. Pretty soon after starting on 30mg, I talked to my pscyhiatrist and we decided to move me up to 40mg, just because it was hard to know whether the starting dose was the right one for me.

Since my diagnosis around 6 months ago, I've probably been taking 40mg of Elvanse for 4 or 5 months, so this dosage has formed a basis for my experience with Elvanse.

On the positive side, I've n

Hi all,

I got a MacBook Air M1 13" (2020) recently, and I've been making sure to keep it clean by wiping the keyboard and removing dust. Whilst cleaning it, I noticed a spot that wouldn't seem to be free of dust. This was in the gap under the Shift key, and on closer inspection, it appears to be some sort of woven material, maybe even tape. I idiotically stuck a very fine needle in the gap and tried to scrape the dust out, but that was when I realised that it wasn't like the other keys.

Any ideas as to what this thing is? Is it tape? Some kind of special thing that only the Shift key has? What do I do about it?

Hello all,

I was shooting with my newly acquired Nikon D600 (bought from MPB in 'Well Used' condition, but the only issues are purely cosmetic) and my 24-120 f/4G recently, and I was concerned to see this odd artefacting appearing on several of my photos. It only seems to appear in these portrait daytime long exposures and usually consists of a vertical line as well as a purple haze.

Are these light leaks? I'm only using a shutter speed of 1 second in both pictures, so I'm unsure if that would make a difference. I am using a Manfrotto ND64 filter, could the filter itself be an issue?

Hi all,

Soon I am going to be doing a course on film photography, and considering that I have a pretty comprehensive understanding of digital photography (having had a Nikon D90 for nine months and a Canon G15 before that) and would need a 35mm SLR for this course, I decided that I wanted to get into it.

After researching, I settled on a Nikon FE2, as I knew I wanted a vintage Nikon. After purchasing a preowned one from Cameworld for £150, I was then called up by the company who said that it'd been bought 2 days ago and they hadn't removed it from the site. Instead, I was offered a Nikon F Photomic FTn for the same price, also in excellent condition and with a leather case.

Hi all,

Recently, after having had a Nikon D90 for the best part of 9 months, I decided to dip my toes into film photography. After doing some research and looking at lens compatibility and such, I settled on a Nikon FE2.

I found one for £150 in excellent condition at Cameraworld, and I bought this along with three 24 exposure rolls of Kodak UltraMax 400. I then got a call from them the next day, in which they told me that it had actually sold 2 days before and they hadn't taken it off the site. Instead, I was offered a Nikon F with the FTn photomic viewfinder for the same price as the FE2 (also in excellent nick).

I can't find a lot comparing the two so I wanted to ask on here; was I rip

Hi all,

I am approaching the end of Y12, meaning that it is only a few months until I submit my application through UCAS.

I currently take Maths, Further Maths, Physics and D&T. I am planning on taking Mechanics for FM in Y13. This, along with my love of D&T, means I am gearing towards a design/engineering course.

The issue is that I can't pick one course to study at all 5 unis. My current choices are:

Design at Cambridge

Design Engineering at Bath and Bristol

Mechanical Engineering at Edinburgh and Durham

What I wanted to ask was this: is this going to make writing my PS difficult? Can I just describe the course/career as "design and engineering"? I'm also worried some of my A-level
