The Odyssey :Odyssey:

I’m not here to hate. I want this to be great. Yeah, I’m one of the people bitching about the costumes and the boats. And then I read this starts with the fall of Troy. I get it. It’s iconic.

The Odyssey is a masterpiece of structure. It starts towards the end of the story. It flashes back bit by bit and then the flashbacks cluster and accelerate. Finally you’re caught up to the present and the momentum is intoxicating.

I know it’s an adaptation. But Nolan loves non-linear storytelling. And maybe just maybe since this is arguably the greatest story ever told, it might be a good idea to stick with the original structure. Personally I am a little worried on this point.

I know r/iamamverybadass but would ICE or Border Patrol reading this be willing to engage with me in a gentleman’s fight? I will box you without gloves in a public arena. If you want us to wear gloves, I will wear gloves. Regardless, what will happen is I will beat the everloving shit out of you. I’m not a boxer. I’m not even in good shape. I look like shit and my posture is terrible.

Let’s go city by city, whichever ones you want to say that you own, and fight over it. I think at least one of these engagements should include Greg Bovino. Sir, I will beat the everloving shit out of you. Take off your armor and come into the ring. There is no ring. Neither one of us know anything about figh

Mr. Watt, I was 13 when I first heard the Minutemen. It was a cassette a friend had taped of 3-Way Tie. I had heard of you in connection to Black Flag, seen your pictures in the My Rules magazine Glen E. Friedman reissued then (wish I had it now, and read about you in the Trouser Press Guide. I didn’t understand the record at all. It’s a great album but not the right intro for my ears at the time. Then I picked up an official cassette of Post-Mersh vol. 3. I was almost reluctant. I played in my room and almost immediately turned it off, because I knew I had found something, a sound and a language, that would be special for all of my life. I wanted to savor the moment. The records on that cas

Just wanted to remind everyone here that the mods for this sub are incompetent, irredeemable garbage people, and instead of hiding behind their ban power should be tossed. New San Antonio sub is long overdue.

Small towns

Question

I live in Portland. Moving my 80 year-old mother out here to a nearby small town, and wondering if you have any recommendations.

-She is healthy. Paddleboards all summer. -Beaverton for example would be too much traffic for her. Highways out of the question. Of course I will visit often but she is still fairly independent. -She loathes cold but only so much we can do there. -Likes walking her dog. -Dislikes overtly “conservative” types.

I’ve only lived in Oregon and travel a lot, so I’m still learning. I know there are a lot of these types of posts, so sorry for yet another. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Punk rock initially was formed by and attracted a lot of artists, poets and interesting, complicated people. Sure, there were meatheads (Ramones, Dictators, etc.) but they were interesting meatheads. Iggy acted like a meathead but he was and is a smart, clever, sly SOB. Then with hardcore came the true dummies, and punk rock never completely recovered. That’s my feeling, anyway. Like I never studied the Cro-Mags’ lyrics late into the night, taking notes on their intricacies. “Devil Girl” by Allmighty Lumberjacks of Death is taught in some freshmen Intro to Literature courses, but only because the final line is so poignant and unexpectedly romantic.

Who are some smart but not pretentious pun

Saw this on Instagram after seeing it in the wild. What is up with patrons at Portland bars forming a line to order drinks when the counter is empty? Never seen this anywhere else.
