On Gentoo I could match by the package/category/version in portage's bashrc and then match by the stage of the installation (post_install, pre_install) to execute commands whenever that happens (even making use of the distinction between first merge and an upgrade).
So far deb-triggers seem to be something that can only be run on file system changes and/or only available for deb packages. Is there a way I can have my user defined scripts to trigger whenever a certain action on a package happens? Is there a way to make a deb that uses triggers to execute those scripts? Something similar to this is pacman hooks if you're still confused what I'm asking for.
I was able to make this work on rpm
