I'm a Dungeons and Dragons fan and really crave that fantasy feel, so coming into the Hidden Isle I plan on doing some worldbuilding and setting it in a high fantasy world at a similar time period to the game as intended. My player (since I've only recruited one so far lol) seems really into this and is helping me develop the world. Is anyone else changing up the setting for their games? If so, what do you plan to change, and what do you plan to keep?

(Copied from itch.io—who better to explain the game than the creators themselves?)

The Hidden Isle is a pen and paper RPG that uses Tarot cards instead of dice. The game is set in an alternative 16th century on the island of Dioscoria: a secret port of magicians, adventurers and free thinkers. The game focuses on roleplaying and collaborative storytelling, and has mechanics to explore character growth.

This is a game about swashbuckling adventures across the Mediterranean Sea, the Middle East and beyond. Steal banned scriptures from oppressive regimes! Protect the persecuted and outcast using ancient magic! Fight the emerging forces of colonialism as they spread their sinister tendrils ac

So my player wants to use a crown that used to the belong to Velsharoon (who, for the purposes of my campaign, is dead), and I'm having trouble thinking of curses to apply to the object. I've already got its function outside of the curse down (ability to control undead regardless of CR and an intelligence boost). I want to avoid having the object being possessed by Velsharoon as he already has a possessed item.

We're in the end game of a duet campaign so I don't mind if it's a little broken.

Any advice on escaping a nightmare realm?

Need Advice: Encounters & Adventures

My players are about to be trapped in a custom tailored nightmare for each of their characters. One is claustrophobic, one is afraid of being alone, and one only recently got control of her body back, so I plan to have her lose it in the nightmare. The issue is, I don't know how to resolve their escape from the hallucination. I don't want to make it a simple wisdom save, as that'll end it pretty quick for two of the players, but I'm unsure how else to make the nightmare end.

The last time I gave them an open-ended puzzle they got a little frustrated, so I'm hoping to go into this with a more clear endpoint

Youre doing this so quickly, but haven't you considered how hard this is for us, your parents? Oh, you want to tell your dad this weekend? You know he's been really stressed out trying to sell the RV. I know you only had the nerve to text your aunt at three am but didn't you think that would wake her up? That one text message that she didn't respond to for 15 hours CLEARLY kept her up at night. How could you even think of starting HRT before telling the rest of the family. But don't tell the rest of the family, yet, you only see them on the holidays or graduations and we don't want you ruining Christmas, after all.

Plus, you never showed any signs growing up, so this is all unexpected. You
