Wiim Sound Lite

Review/Discussion

Scooped one on Prime Day for $183. No stranger to Wiim products having owned a Mini, Ultra and Amp.

I was looking to simplify for casual listening and to make things easier for wifey, who loves my vinyl system but is terrified at damaging my gear or records; this is pushbutton easy, just use the phone app.

I was thinking this would be a cheap-sounding listening experience, wow I was wrong! Of course it doesn't match up to my main system of planar magnetic speakers, moving coil cartridge, DD turntable and single ended Class A amplification but it is a musical and enjoyable level of SQ.

I played my favorite funk, r&b and disco compilations, some Zep and Bowie and they were quite good at mod

I read only part of the massive thread on ASR, gave up after 17 pages) but I saw this "clone" on AliExpress for $140 and felt lucky.

Wow, this amp rocks if you don't need to play very loud in a big space. Had no issues hitting 80 dB peak in a room just under 500 sq ft, listening about 6' away driving quite inefficient planar magnetics (~82 dB/Watt). Zep, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, EWF, Jazz Messengers, Miles and Beethoven symphonies all came to life with a very punchy bottom, transparent mids and treble.

ASR folks savaged it for measuring terribly but damn it sounds awesome.

Screw.The.Numbers. If it measured bad but sounds good then you measured the wrong thing. This is a genuine audiophile

Don't understand why the FO doesn't tender him to a minor league deal while he rehabs from the left Achilles tear; only 29 and prognosis should be positive. He was doing great with his fastball & curve combo.

NHT Superzeroes

Discussion

Headphonesty did an interesting survey of over 3,000 people, asking what they thought were the most underrated loudspeakers.

At #4, with 5.51% was the NHT Superzero, certainly the only speaker to make the list that retailed under $250/pr back in the day (and routinely found on the used market for ~$100/pr).

They are quite accurate, transparent and neutral, not much going on under 90Hz but that just makes them prime for SW integration, plus increases their ability to play loud. In a small room or desktop use it's possible to get away w/o the SW if your music isn't bass-heavy. A Wiim Amp and a pair of SZ make

This is a brand new mono HOMC (4-pin not 2) that I saw offered by a Japanese seller on eBay. Normally retails for $299 but for $162, it for my criteria for an impulse buy.

Setup was a breeze and in no time I was spinning my small collection of Mono LPs from Jazz Messengers, Coltrane, Otis Redding and Streisand.

The difference in quietness, punch and midrange clarity was very noticeable.

I used to think of Mono LPs as meh but that was because I had only heard them on entry level or worse stereos. My mind changed after hearing a >$100K reference system (giant Wow).

While not a 6 figure system, this captures a lot of Mono's inherent strengths on my humble home system (Denon VL12, Mani 2, Br
