Hi there, I'm repairing and old GP observatory HF.
I removed the mineral crystal as it's pretty scratched, I tried using Polywatch glass polish but no luck removing these scratches.
It's 34.4mm and 3mm thick, and I can find a replacement crystal for these dimensions, but the one I removed has a small ridge where an O-ring goes.
I strangely can't find a crystal like this, so I'm wondering if I should 1) buy a 34.4mm non-ridged crystal with an o-ring and it will fit, 2) buy 1 or 2mm smaller to allow for the O-ring.
Here's a picture if helpful
Thanks so much!
Hi there!
I am at the end of my tether and would really love some help. Spent two months debugging this with my bike mechanic and not having any luck, but figured someone here may know!
I was bleeding my hydro brakes because they didn't have much bite. Couldn't improve them much, pushed hard and pulled hard, potentially damaged something. I had fluid leaking from the reservoir section by my lever. After this, brakes had next to zero bite - you can feel the pistons if you put your finger there lightly and pumped repeatedly, but really essentially no bite.
Bike mechanic had the same experience. Even with zero air in the system, no bite, level goes to bar. Nothing. Hypothesis was that the bl
Hello r/watchmaking!
I recently purchased a very thin VC movement - it's 2.5mm(!) thick, 36.6mm wide, and the dial is about 39.8mm. I was excited because it's one of their highest end movements from the period (1930), is one of VC's "les collectionneurs" timepieces they were touring with: Vacheron Constantin Les Collectionneurs., and I could never afford a VC normally :)
Now it's caseless, so I was going to get together a wristwatch case for it. I normally wouldn't do this, but I have no hope of finding an appropriate pocket case (presumably melted long ago, and can't find any this thin), and it will never
