Best debit cards for rewards

Banking and Finance

I come from Canada, where we don't have the best rewards compared to America but we still have rewards that casually stack up on spending and give us points towards groceries, travel, etc.

Is there a Korean debit card that a student on D2 visa could get? I don't want to use my Canadian cards here because it makes the purchase tracking so hard (Korean names come out weird).

Dorms vs Off campus

Hi, gks student here looking for thoughts on which option is better on a 1100k per month stipend

Option 1) Dorms

Pros:

  • very affordable (266k a month)
  • community (rest of KLI kids are here)

Cons:

  • 40+ minute walk from the subway station, 25 mins walk from my daily building on campus
  • shared space with roomie (not privacy)
  • shared washrooms
  • centralized temperature control (im v sensitive to heat)
  • in a mountain with more bugs possibly

Option 2) Off campus one-room

Pros:

  • can have guests over whenever I want
  • residential neighbourhood (yeonhuidong)
  • right beside the school so I can still get $1 breakfast
  • living like a real adult with my own space

Cons:

Hi there, moving to Korea soon as a Canadian citizen. Will be receiving stipends from a school scholarship there.

Questions:

  1. Does the scholarship count as income?
  2. If I don't declare non-tax resident of Canada, will this be double taxed?
  3. Is there a way to keep TFSA and HISA gains continuing while abroad in Korea?

Thank you in advance

Hydroponic Garden

Hobbies and Gaming

Hi there, moving to Korea soon and looking to potentially start my own lil hydroponic garden indoors in a banjiha room to save on costs of veggies.

Anyone know any good places to buy a setup?

Anyone success stories? Difficulties?

Got accepted to KAIST for Master's. I'm from Canada. My other option is Yonsei Songdo campus.

I was reading through the KAIST Herald and they mention bad cafeteria food, people wearing lack of sleep as a badge, and just overall being super overworked and under pressure. I know this might be a symptom of the whole country but when I studied abroad at Yonsei, I found there was a good balance between work hard and play hard (eg extracurriculars).

I'm considering going with Yonsei to network and build my own company during the Master's instead of slaving away to research at KAIST - would this be the worst idea? Anyone in KAIST Daejeon that can speak to what school culture there looks like on a
