Hello r/maker community!

I'm embarking on an exciting journey and need your collective wisdom. I have a budget of $25,000 (or its equivalent in euros) and a dream to create the best and most accessible makerspace that caters to both children and adults. This space aims to inspire creativity, learning, and innovation across all age groups.

What I Need From You:

I would love to hear your suggestions on how to allocate this budget effectively. Specifically, I'm looking for recommendations on tools and equipment that you believe are essential for a top-tier makerspace. Here are some categories to consider:

Hey admins,

I've been brainstorming an idea for my business that involves offering customers access to expensive items they can use temporarily and then put back when they're done. The goal is to set up a smart locker system that allows for the secure unlocking and locking of these items.

The locker system should ideally use some sort of secure unlocking mechanism such as RFID, NFC, or perhaps even an app-based system. The idea is to allow authorized users to unlock a cabinet, use the expensive item inside, and then secure it back in the locker.

Has anyone here implemented something similar or have any thoughts, recommendations, or pitfalls to avoid?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on how to set up a 3-way sync with 3 separate NAS devices where each person gets 33% of the space and the data is encrypted. My friends and I want to share files securely and ensure that each person has equal access to the shared space. We also want to make sure that the data is encrypted to protect our privacy.

I'm not sure which software or service would be best for this situation. I have looked into using Syncthing, Resilio Sync, and Nextcloud, but I'm not sure if they would meet our needs.

I am the only person who is tech savy, so the absolute easiest method should be used.

Does anyone have experience with setting up a similar system? What s

You may remember me from this post 9 months ago: "I've failed" The time for feeling sorry for myself is long gone and my partner and I are starting up a STEM Academy for children in Germany. (3d Printers, learning programming, Lego Minstorm courses, etc).

I'm using wordpress for my website and have started to build out the feature list for what we'll need. Scheduling classes, customer portal, course availability, payment gateway, etc.

I know that business management suites exist (Zoho One being something very intriguing) but I'd like your feedback on certain pieces of software th

I'm now a statistic. My business failed and it's my fault. I know what I did wrong but it doesn't change the fact that I no longer have income and need to figure out what's next to keep a roof over my head.

I'm applying to companies and my resume looks like a shit-show. Multiple gap years, no consistency and no track record working at a traditional job. I've busted my ass for years building my company and have worn every hat. I can do any job (minus accounting and programming) at a traditional company. Not expert level, but enough to get by. How on earth am I going market myself to potential employers now? "Hey, the business I created from nothing failed because of my incompetence.

I don't play the game but since my children love it, I naturally try and show an interest in what they're playing.

This game gets them moving and collaborating together. However, my oldest son has been crying saying that he taught his charizard a new move and now he lost his "160 damage is now only 40 move". I have no idea what to do, so if anyone on here can tell me if there's hope, that would be awesome.

If not, he's got to learn to read everything before clicking randomly (he's 8).

EDIT: Thanks for all your help! I'll have him use the Charged TM so we can hopefully get the attack back! You guys are fantastic!

My husband and I have just purchased a house in Upstate New York. We had a week of very hot weather and we realized that our geothermal system wasn't cooling like it should. It was especially hot in our baby's room.

We had many HVAC companies come who claimed to know about geothermal systems and it was very obvious that they all lacked expertise and they all struggled to understand our system.

What we've learned is we have a system installed from around 2002 that has a horizontal loops which uses freon as the refrigerant.

Dandelion quoted us 80k for a new system since they don't do repairs. We can't invest in a new system since we just bought this new house and we need to find an econo

I have developed a unique product (type of pet bed) and have finished with the 4th version of the prototype that everyone involved is happy with. The only problem is shipping 500 of these pet beds will cost thousands of dollars thereby destroying any price competitiveness of producing in China.

If possible, I'd love to get this product manufactured in the US but not sure where to turn to. Is there a USA Alibaba type website? I wouldn't mind producing the product in Mexico, as I'm sure labor is cheaper and shipping shouldn't be too much.

Thanks!
