“The details of my exciting vacation opportunity are seconds away…”

And then the guy’s headset cut out as I was trying to correct the old address he had on file for me.

What was he even going to try to sell me? This was after I called to add a room to an existing reservation. I wonder if I still get the 500 points since his headset apparently broke or something.

I have a gross old GTE Sylvania panel that uses Q-type breakers. It obviously needs to be replaced, but it’s integrated with the meter base, and I expect it will take a while to get a replacement meter base.

In the meantime, many of the breakers look like they’re probably original from when the house was built in the ‘70s. I’ve noticed the old breakers don’t seem as physically robust (IMHO) as the newer ones from Connecticut Electric, and also the way the old breakers capture the conductor under a screw head seems inferior to the new way.

Would it make sense to go ahead and replace the old breakers with new ones, or is that a waste of time and money?

I’m mostly an iPhone user myself, but I have family members who are Android users. I also may have occasion to do some kind of mobile development or need to debug something using an Android device, so between that and family members who might have something break and need a spare, I’d like a recommendation on a phone that would meet the following criteria:

  • long term availability of updates
  • wide app compatibility (if this is even a thing on Android today)
  • works great on T-Mobile
  • preferably not super expensive

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, whether on specific models or even other criteria I should be considering but haven’t thought of.

I have a closet off my front hallway, and currently there’s also a slim table in the same hallway. The table sits along the wall opposite the closet door. This makes for a slightly tight space to walk through, but nothing too challenging for the occupants of the house. Except me. I occasionally smack my hip on the closet doorknob.

It hasn’t hurt too much yet, but I’d like to replace the doorknob if I can before I really bruise my hip. I’d like something that’s easy to use but doesn’t stick out much into the hallway. I’ve found a couple of things on Amazon but they have reviews that make me wary.

Does anyone know of anything that could work for my situation? Thanks!

I am just a homeowner looking for something unrelated in the NEC, but I stumbled upon this and got curious:

110.24 Available Fault Current

(A) Field Marking

Service equipment at other than dwelling units shall be legibly marked in the field with the available fault current.

This seems to imply that at dwelling units there is some commonly accepted/assumed maximum available fault current. Is that the case? If so, what is it and what parts of my electrical system are designed with that in mind? If not, what have I misunderstood here?

Thanks in advance!

I recently blocked someone who I'd been providing some tech support for, who was being rather unappreciative and sent some nasty replies. Those nasty replies are now at the top of my notifications, and have stayed there despite my having blocked this user. Is there anything I can do, short of making sure other activity pushes these notifications further down the list?

My partner has a bad back. When doing laundry, she’s found it much easier to use the washer and dryer now that they’re pedestal-mounted. Following a similar thought process, it occurred to me that with the right cabinetry in place, perhaps an ordinary residential dishwasher could be mounted above floor-level so that the person operating it doesn’t have to bend over as much. But I’m not sure what assumptions are being made by the manufacturer that I might be unaware of that could lead to some kind of plumbing problems or just additional installation or maintenance challenges with this approach.

Have you ever heard of this being done? I see some results online for “elevated dishwasher” and “

My understanding is that NM cable run over floor joists in an attic without permanent access only has to be protected within a certain distance of the attic hatch, and that the required protection is wood strips, running along both sides of the cable, that are at least as tall as the cable itself. I'm wondering whether placing the cable in some kind of commercially available cable tray or raceway would be an acceptable way of protecting such runs in my attic, in lieu of the wooden strips.

I ask because after buying the house in January, I've finally gotten started remediating some of the electrical issues, and they seem to be much more numerous than I first suspected. Since I plan to work
