This one breaks my heart.

"Does Paige know we love her?" and "We need to call Paige," compared to "did you help Henry study for his biology test?" and "shit, I thought that was you."

Turning the Corner

Sharing a Win!

For 10 years, OCD has held an iron grip on my life. Mine was quite probably the most severe case of OCD on this sub, though I didn't post much.

Finally, for the first time, after starting TMS and finding a 5th new therapist- I'm beginning to feel like myself. I can rejoin the world of the living. Seeing the futility of reassurance, and acting how a "reasonable" person would act (i.e., check something once, then move on.)

It's still a long road ahead. But there's hope for all of us.

Thoughts per Second

NSFWGeneral Discussion

I just realized humans in the Culture have twenty thoughts per second:

"I have watched people die in exhaustive and penetrative detail," the avatar continued. "I have felt for them. Did you know that true subjective time is measured in the minimum duration of demonstrably separate thoughts? Per second, a human—or a Chelgrian—might have twenty or thirty, even in the heightened state of extreme distress associated with the process of dying in pain."

I’m assuming that “seconds” haven’t changed much between now and then. Which means that the individual humans in the Culture are incomprehensibly, terrifyingly, smarter than us.

I know this is likely paranoia, but I've been worrying about it.

A few years ago I went exploring in some steam tunnels with prominent "WARNING! ASBESTOS" signs, and exposed and fraying pipe insulation. I was wearing a wool coat, which likely caught a lot of fibers. It's possible that there were flakes and bits of dust billowing around, but I can't remember.

At the time I figured that small amounts of asbestos weren't harmful. But now I'm worried that I tracked fibers back home and into other places where I wore the coat. If I deposited the dust on floors and furniture, it would be chronic, and not just a one-off.

I've been reading that 1 f/mL-year of amphibole is enough to give you

I’ve dealt with horrifically bad OCD for 10 years, and finally had my first major breakthrough.

Ruminating is pointless. Whatever we’re worried about is either past (and therefore beyond our power to change), or in the future (and therefore beyond our power to control.)

I would get suckered into the illusion that by manipulating mental concepts — “proving” what happened or didn’t — I was doing something good. But I wasn’t. I was just ruminating.

Deep Force Shrine

SpoilerDiscussion

I didn’t know what to do so I fused the float to a spear and threw it at the target.

It worked.

I love this game.
