I need something reliable around $5500 or less. Looking at sedans or hatchbacks between 2012 and 2020 years old, up to 125K miles. Although I personally can afford our beloved Toyota and Honda choices, this person cannot.

I know enough to stay away from Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, but what's the middle ground? Hyundai and Kia? Nissan or Mitsubishi? Good 'ol Chevy and Ford? What's a solid car to look for? model doesn't matter much, but "sub-compact" might be pushing it too much.

Bonus points that it is inexpensive to fix when things DO go wrong.

I bought a Honda certified used 2023 Passport EX-L with only $15,900 miles. So far I love this thing. One thing I noticed is it never turns itself off with the Idle Stop feature (and I don't think the VCM is doing its thing either). At stoplights, I get a message on the display that shows

Idle Stop Temporarily Interrupted: System Warming Up Or Charging

Normally I wouldn't care because I'd turn the feature off, but I still want to fix the problem, not mask it

My layman's guess is the battery is 2023 original and not in good shape? If so, makes me wonder what else they skimped on when they "certified" it.

Fortunately the Honda dealer I bought it from I'll never return to because it was

Have you ever had an issue with a Honda dealer with a VCM defeater installed, like the VCM Tuner or S-VCM? I'm not concerned with the merits of it, but whether you were denied warranty work with it installed.

I just bought a Honda certified 2023 Passport EX-L in blue pearl, with gray interior. Only 15K miles. I'm loving it!

This replaced a 2012 RAV4 V6 Limited, so... basically I bought a bigger, fatter version of my V6 RAV4, but with all the fun updates like Apple CarPlay. I specifically sought out the gray leather because my RAV4 had beige leather and I'm not a fan of dark/black leather in a car. 'Too bad Honda doesn't offer beige.

My first updates are a bigger JJProducts armrest for the driver's side; I ordered the VCMTuner II today, and some WeatherTech mats.

Now if I can only figure out what Honda was thinking when they made a square hole in the door for a round water bottle...

Tomorrow I give up my beloved 2012 RAV4 V6 AWD Limited - aka the best RAV4 ever made IMO. I'd like to thank whoever thought about putting a V6 into a fat Corolla. I've embarrassed quite a few cars at the stoplight.

It's getting long in the tooth and quite frankly, the damn thing just won't die. It's the first car I've had long enough to get bored of instead of it simply dying. The replacement will be a 2023 Honda Passport. It's also only 2-rows, so slightly bigger in all directions plus the modern conveniences. I do want that wireless charging and Apple Carplay. And yes,... I know I can add aftermarket stuff to my RAV4 to get that, but it's still a 14yr old car.

I purchased a used Kuna and it came with both the OEM and HBI short stroke buffer kit. How can I tell the difference? I think the buffer itself is fairly easy to figure out, but not sure which spring is which. Can someone post/link a pic of all 4 pieces?

I installed Emby alongside my Plex server on a Windows 10 box (and I have other streaming apps like Netflix and Prime), and only Emby is having a problem with my clients. Specifically, Emby with my Roku 4802 Ultra. I have an older Roku streaming stick and older 3660X model that do not have this problem - only the new Roku 4802 Ultra.

What happens is stuttering when playing any MKV video files, like movie rips or x264/x265 encodes. This doesn't happen with the older Rokus, nor GoogleTV on my Sony TV, nor with a Plex client of any flavor. The file is being direct played. Actually, transcoding fixes the issue, which I suspect is because it changes the container from MKV to MP4??

Since the lower is made of polymer, does anyone have some recommendations on good cleaning solvents that will work well? Has anyone submerged it in a sonic cleaner?

I've noticed that compared to other Emby competitive products, that Emby will consistently make the wrong decision in trying to identify a movie file.

For example, of which there are many, I added Jurassic Park (1993) and its first instinct was thinking it was the "Making of Jurassic Park" instead of the movie itself. I've seen this multiple times.

Why in the world would the Devs think the default answer for a file, with similar syntax, would be the "making of" instead of the actual movie??

I looked at Plex DVR a few months ago and wasn't too impressed. I looked again and it seems to have some more features, so either my memory is wrong or they added some? I don't recall the ability to have it automatically keep/delete episodes after watching. I think the ability to only record new episodes there last time, but don't remember. I still use SageTV for my HDHomeRun and TV recording.

Anyway, has Plex updated their DVR offering in the last 6 months? Or was this status quo?

Coming from Plex, their Live TV option allows for my Roku client to play the stream from an HDHomeRun natively in MPEG2 format without transcoding. Yes the .ts stream needs to be put in an MKV container by Plex, as it does so, but the video is still native.

I can't figure out how to get Emby to do the same. All my TV watching is transcoded to H.264 and there is noticeable lag when starting a channel.

I'm getting close to retirement and one of the recommendations I see over and over is to keep 1-2 years of expenses in "cash". I assume that doesn't literally mean you keep like $50-100K worth money not making any interest? If most of my money in Fidelity, does the default money market that sits around 3.5% qualify? Or is there a better option that is still liquid?

Does anyone have a recommendation to replace the those little Opple Lightmaster Pro Bluetooth measuring devices? I'm looking for all the same functions such as CCT, CRI, DUV and Flicker. I realize the "next step up" will be more expensive.
