Hi all, my partner is at 20 weeks and we're starting to plan for the birth. We had planned on me being the one in the room to advocate for her, but we received some advice recently that as hard as I try, it's unlikely I'll have a sufficiently firm grasp on birthing, different medical interventions, or how the hospital system works to really know what's best. This person recommended hiring a doula, as they're more familiar with everything around birthing.

We've had a bit of a look and haven't found any doulas around us available in December who we can talk to about what exactly they'd offer. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience or perspective on anything related to this that they'd be

Hey all, I'm planning on building a desk out of (premium) plywood. One end supported by brackets in the wall, the other by this little shelving unit I've designed.

Each different coloured panel in the image is a different piece of ply, with a transparent desktop on top. My thought was that I'd drill into the top edges of those pieces of panel, screw in some [threaded inserts](https://www.anzor.com.au/stainless-wood-inserts), and run bolts through corresponding holes in the desktop to hold it together. This is preferable to relying on glue for everything, as I'm a renter a

Hey all,

I'm trying to start torrenting on my Linux Mint, storing files on a network drive. I've tried using qbittorrent and have had an error coming up saying "IO Errored: operation not supported".

From what I've read, it may be an issue with downloading to the network drive and qbittorent having different conventions around file path names, I know very little about this stuff and haven't a clue how to fix or get around it.

Does anyone have any advice on changing settings within Linux or qbittorrent to remedy this, or of another torrent client I could use that won't have the same issue?

Much appreciated!

(As I said, I have very little experience with Linux, please reply as if I know no

Hey all,

I have a NUC running Kodi, streaming media from a NAS, running HDMI to my TV in my lounge room. I'm looking at setting up a HiFi system in the bedroom, streaming from the same NAS.

I was thinking I'd get a raspberry pi to send media to the HiFi amp, I'm wondering the best way to go about this. Do I set up the raspberry pi as an audio output of the living room kodi instance, or would I be better off setting up a second instance of kodi on the raspberry pi?

For context, I almost exclusively use Kore and Yatse remotes to control the living room set up, and would want to do the same for the bedroom set up.

Thanks heaps

Hi all,

I have a Kodi setup running on a small computer, with HDMI going to TV and USB going to a DAC > amplifier > speakers . I use the TV's internal speakers for watching TV and films, and the DAC set up for listening to music, switching between the audio output settings in Kodi's settings depending on my activity. I use the Kore remote app to navigate Kodi.

Currently, if I want to switch the output channel to listen to music, I have to turn on my TV and navigate through the settings menu, which is quite cumbersome. I'd like to be able to simply change the settings from my phone without involving my TV at all, however only Kore's settings appear in the app, rather than the Kodi systems'

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone's been paying attention to the U18s comp this year and has a read on Jesse Mellor and Ben Rongdit, members of our NGA.

This video of Mellor popped up on my recommended today, he looks like he's got a bit of talent (though even in his highlight reel, Cody Walker drew a fair bit of attention... kid's a gun). Are we likely to pick up Mellor? Will we have to use an early pick to beat out another team, or will we be able to snag him late?

Rongdit did an ACL earlier in the year so didn't play a heap of footy. [Kevin Sheehan seems to rate him](https://www.afl.com.au/news/1444635/kevin-sheehans-2

I bought these wooden brackets (they're decorative for indoor use), the pre-drilled holes are big. A 10g screw barely touches the sides. Similar to these.

I assume (maybe incorrectly) that the screws' threads should be gripping into both the bracket and the wall, and the bracket and the shelf. I think I'd probably need 14g screws to grip. I don't want to use big hex screws as they look ugly and these are going in my living room, but the only 14g timber screws I can find are way too long for my 20mm shelf.

So, what do I do here? Do the threads need to be gripping the bracket for them to be properly secure, or

Hey all,

I've got a few frames sitting around in the garage that I'd like to do something with. In particular, I've got a higher end 90s Repco frame that I'd like to put a newer 105 group set on (this group set is currently fitted to a frame I found on the street).

I know how to change a tyre, tune a derailleur, I think I've changed a chain before, and I can do some other basic maintenance jobs. Stripping a frame and fully setting up another is a bit beyond me. My tool library is also pretty threadbare.

Is there anywhere I can go in with all of my parts and frames and be taught and guided through to process of putting a bike together? I'm familiar with Ceres Bike Shed, 1226 and Bikes Plea

Bikes on trains etiquette

Things That Go Ding

I'm going on placement for uni, I've gotta get from Preston to Port Melbourne at 8:30am on weekdays for the next four weeks. I'm thinking I'll get the train from Preston to the Southern Cross Station (arriving around 8:10), then cycle to Port Melbourne from there.

I'm not usually on PT at those hours, and I'm concerned the trains may be too busy for it to be practical or polite for me to be taking a bike on. I'm reaching out to ask if anyone has any experience, thoughts, or advice about whether or not it's doable, and any tips on how to minimise any inconvenience to fellow passengers.

Cheers

I'm catching up on watching tonight's episode of On the Couch, and the panelists' opinions vary from "I don't feel strongly either way, happy to back the club and the AFL" to an all time galaxy brain take from Jordan Lewis that "a four week ban is a hefty and fitting penalty".

Jordan, if Balta had done what he'd done on the footy field, he'd be banned for twice as many games at least.

The prevailing opinion on this sub seems to be that Balta has gotten off lightly. Why do we think there's such a difference of opinion? Is it classic old boys taking care of the young boys? Are they privileged and out of touch?
